Another continental tournament that is set to take place this year is the 2024 Cope America. The continental tournament for the teams from North and South America (CONCACAF and CONMEBOL respectively) compete for intercontinental supremacy.

The tournament will see the 16 teams divided into four groups of 4 teams each. The teams will face off against each other once in a round-robin format, with the top two teams moving to the quarter-finals.

All 10 members of the South American Football Federation (CONMEBOL) are part of the competition, while six members from the North American Football Federation (CONCACAF) will participate.

Group A
Group A consists of the reigning Copa America and World Champions Argentina, along with Peru, Chile, and the winner of a playoff match between Canada and Trinidad and Tobago.
First thing first, the playoff match will take place on March 23, and sees Canada go into it as the favourites. Canada did get a bye to the quarters of the Nations League but lost to Jamaica in the last eight stage and will look to qualify for Copa America on the backs of talented players like Alphonso Davies.

While the playoff winner might prove a tough nut to crack in the group stage, the real contest for second place in this group is between Peru and Chile. Both nations have won the tournament twice, with Chile’s wins having come fairly recently, in 2015 and 2016.
On the other hand, Peru has been on a better run recently and is slightly ahead in FIFA rankings. So it’s a toss-up between the two. But as far as we are concerned, we believe that Peru will make it to the quarter-final from this group alongside Argentina.

Group B
Group B will see Mexico, Ecuador, Venezuela, and Jamaica compete for the playoff spots.
While there are two clear favourites in this group, let’s talk about the other two teams first. First is Venezuela, which is one of the lower-seeded teams from CONMEBOL. But the national team has been in some form recently. They are currently fourth in the CONMEBOL FIFA World Cup 2016 qualifiers, ahead of the likes of Brazil and Chile. They can cause some stir in this group,
The second underdog from this group is Jamaica, who have qualified for the tournament based on making it to the semi-finals of the CONCACAF Nations League. The two heavyweights in this group are Mexico and Ecuador. Group C
Group C consists of the host United States, along with Uruguay, Pana, and Bolivia. Bolivia is by far the lowest-ranked team in the tournament and will most likely not make it to the knockouts if not just lose all their matches.
As per COPA AMERICA 2024 Groups Announced, Panama might be in for an outside shout for the quarters in this group, but the two favourites are far more likely to move on as compared to any other group.

The Uruguay national team is going through a transition. After being knocked out in the group stage of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, they are in a transitional period. Despite that, they should easily make it to the quarter-finals.

Group D
Group D of the 2024 Copa America consists of heavy hitters like Columbia and five-time World Champions Brazil. They are accompanied in the group by Paraguay and the winner of the playoff match between Costa Rica and Honduras.
Despite making it to the quarter-finals of the CONCACAF Nations League, neither Costa Rica nor Honduras will finish top two in this group in Copa America if and when they qualify for the competition. The same can be said about Paraguay. While they won the competition twice in the middle of the 20th century, their stock in international football has fallen drastically in the last couple of decades. So much so that a team that frequently made it to the World Cup has not done so on the last few occasions.
While Brazil should easily make it to the quarters, they have not been in the best form. The Golden Greens are currently sixth in the CONMEBOL FIFA World Cup qualifiers and lost to the other favourites in the group, Columbia not two months ago.
