Conway takes an unbelievable catch of Sarfaraz: New Zealand have got off to an unbelievable start in the three-match Test series against India as they have reduced the hosts to 34/6 at the end of the first session of the first Test match.
The day 1 of the Bengaluru Test was washed out completely but play started on time on Day 2 with Rohit Sharma, the Indian captain, winning the toss and electing to bat first. However, Rohit’s decision backfired horribly as the Kiwi pace trio of Tim Southee, Matt Henry, and William O’Rourke tormented the Indian batters, effectively using the swing and seam movement, along with the extra bounce, available in the pitch and conditions.
By lunch on Day 2, India have lost six wickets for only 34 runs, with four of their batsmen being dismissed for a duck. One of them is Sarfaraz Khan, who was the victim of a sensational one-handed catch from Devon Conway.
Matt Henry bowled a length delivery much outside the off-stump and Sarfaraz Khan went hard at it, aiming for a booming drive through the covers. He didn’t care to keep it on the ground and mistimed his connection as well.
Still, the ball was flying toward the right of Devon Conway, who was fielding at short cover. On most days, the ball would have landed safely on the ground out of the fielder’s reach or the fielder would have only got his fingertips on it.
However, not today as Conway put in a full-length dive, moved down and plucked the ball with his right hand only. Even as he fell on the ground, Conway maintained a hold on the ball. It was a mind-blowing catch and the reactions of the New Zealand players and the commentators suggested the same.

First, Southee rattled Rohit’s leg stumps before New Zealand went bang-bang to get rid of Virat Kohli off O’Rourke and Sarfaraz off Henry. After a mini-partnership between Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant, the Kiwis stormed back further nipping out Jaiswal for 13 and then KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja both for ducks.
Meanwhile, India are without Shubman Gill (neck stiffness) and New Zealand without Kane Williamson (groin strain) in the first Test.
