CM Punk Exposes WWE Press Conference: WWE Superstar CM Punk recently exposed the secret behind WWE press conferences, which take place after every Premium Live Event and other big event, saying that the wrestlers are not given any scripts for these.
WWE press conferences became a staple of the company’s media output under the new ownership. With Chief Content Officer Triple H in charge of the product, WWE hosts press conferences after PLEs and allows journalists to ask questions of the superstars who appeared on the show.
These are still relatively new, as it has only been a couple of years since these press conferences have been held. These are common in other sports, and even rival promotion All Elite Wrestling (AEW) has been doing them for some time.

Someone who has been regular in these press events for the past year is CM Punk, who participated in his second Royal Rumble match since returning to WWE in November 2023.
While last year he was in the final two before being eliminated by eventual winner Cody Rhodes, this year he was in the final four after eliminating Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns, before being thrown out by Logan Paul.

While The Second City Saint did not appear in the press conference following Royal Rumble 2025, he revealed the secret behind such press conferences a day later.
Appearing on the Good Guy/Bad Guy podcast with UFC legends Daniel Cormier and Chael Sonnen, the Straightedge superstar explained that, unlike on-screen promos in the WWE, which are planned and scripted to some degree, the press conferences are not scripted or written by a writer. Instead, the stars have to field the questions and answer them in real time.
“Well, I think in the press conferences, you’re just sitting out there in real-time, fielding and asking and answering questions. So yeah, it’s a shoot because there’s nobody telling you what to say. There’s no writer; you don’t have a script. Somebody asks and you answer,” said Punk.
CM Punk, who has appeared at awesome WWE press conferences, has a storied history with such media scrums. After winning the AEW World Championship at All Out 2022, he went off on the media about his relationship with AEW EVPs and his former friend Colt Cabana, leading to a backstage brawl that set the groundwork for his departure from the company a year later.
Now in WWE, the 46-year-old forwarded his story with Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins after the three men were eliminated from the Rumble, leading to a triple threat between the three men at WrestleMania 41. On this week’s episode of Monday Night RAW, Punk defeated Sami Zayn in the main event to qualify for the Elimination Chamber match at the namesake PLE next month, joining John Cena in the cast for that match.
