Clarke Urges Rohit to Support Hardik Publicly: It’s all nothing but a mess for the Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2024. It all started when the franchise decided to take back the captaincy from Rohit Sharma and place it in the hands of Hardik Pandya.
This somehow sent the fans crazy—crazy enough to boo Hardik, their captain, in their home stadium. They also went on to rant on social media. Rohit Sharma’s wife didn’t sit behind him. She poured oil into the fire by calling out MI for lying. Everything amalgamated into the Mumbai Indians losing three in a row, and their new captain is getting booed shamelessly by the Rohit fans.
Clarke Urges Rohit to Support Hardik Publicly
By now, Rohit should have come out and backed Hardik Pandya out of sportsmanship, and it’s high time for that. The same is felt by former Australian cricketer and commentator Michael Clarke. Speaking to ESPN Australia, Clarke said that this is the first time he has seen the Indians boo their home player. He also urged Hardik to deliver as a captain and as a player.
“This is something I haven’t seen before in India. The local fans don’t boo their players. Hardik is fine, but he must deliver a performance as a captain, batter, and bowler. There is no substitute for success.
And the most important thing to turn the table on his side, according to Clarke, is to end the losing streak.
“To get things in his favor, he needs to ensure that the Mumbai Indians’ losing streak ends. The franchise decided to bring him back and appoint him captain. But now the onus is on Hardik. How does he lead this Mumbai Indians side? He has a big influence on the franchise, but the performances are not coming,” Clarke continued.
Clarke also wants Rohit to come out publicly to support his captain.
‘Rohit is a champion cricketer and a nice guy. He needs to come out and say something publicly to support Hardik. The two can make MI successful again,” he added.
