SA Lead as Elgar Grew Tall on Indian Bowlers

SA vs IND 1st Test Day 2 Report: Proteas grew wild at the Centurion, nourished by the dodgy Indian bowing. But what was the highlight of the second day was Dean Elgar’s century, which almost diminished the spectacular one that KL Rahul had that had given India the oxygen to stay on.

In the Boxing Day Test, South Africa seized control thanks to Elgar’s 140*, leaving India trailing by 11 runs. The day began with India struggling after lunch, deploying debutant Prasidh Krishna to bowl, and that’s when the Proteas went on a rampage, adding 42 runs within 8 overs.

Elger Boxed Down Indian Bowlers on Boxing Day

Elgar showcased resilience against challenging deliveries, employing a play-and-miss technique that frustrated India’s bowlers. He weathered the storm, eventually reaching 140 runs off 211 balls.

South Africa capitalized on India’s backup bowlers, accumulating 145 runs in the post-lunch session. David Bedingham’s debut half-century added to India’s challenges. Bedingham’s technique, emphasizing weight transfer, stood out, especially in his precise flick off Jasprit Bumrah.

Despite India’s efforts, the pitch at SuperSport Park remained difficult to bat on. South Africa’s post-lunch run rate exceeded anything achieved since 2018, with Bedingham contributing significantly. India, however, showcased their resilience by striking twice late in the day.

While the new ball could provide India with an opportunity, South Africa’s overall dominance, coupled with India’s occasional lapses, sets the stage for a challenging Test match. As the day concluded with India trailing by 11 runs, the unpredictability of Test cricket remained evident in Centurion.

SA vs IND 1st Test Day 2 Report: Score Snippets

    South Africa 256 for 5 (Elgar 140*, Bedingham 56, Bumrah 2-48)

    India 245 (Rahul 101, Rabada 5-59)

South Africa lead by 11 runs

  • Virat Kohli Surpassed Rahul Dravid’s Impressive Milestone Against South Africa

Virat Kohli Surpassed Rahul Dravid’s Impressive Milestone Against South Africa

Virat Kohli Surpasses a Record of Rahul Dravid: Virat Kohli has a habit of breaking and smashing records, something he has been doing for over a decade now. He surpassed current Indian head coach Rahul Dravid to add his name to the history books yet another time.

In the final leg of India’s tour to South Africa, the two nations are competing in a two-match Test series. Day 1 saw the Indan batting order struggle in front of the Proteas bowling attack on the challenging conditions of the Centurion Park. On Day 2, India was bowled out for 245, with KL Rahul scoring a century and Kagiso Rabada taking five wickets.

Virat Kohli Surpasses a Record of Rahul Dravid

Virat Kohl was the second-highest scorer in the 1st innings, scoring a fighting 38 before being caught out by Rabada. These 38 runs helped Kohli break an impressive record.

Before this match, Rahul Dravid was India’s third-highest run-scorer against South Africa in Test matches with 1252 runs and Kohli 16 runs behind him. Virat, playing his 15th Test match against the Proteas, went past Dravid in the first innings and now has 1274 runs against this opposition.

If he manages to score another 32 runs in the second innings, Kohli will surpass Virender Sehwag on 1306 runs to go second on the list. The first name on the list, unsurprisingly, is Sachin Tendulkar, who has 1741 runs against South Africa in 25 Test matches.

While Tendulkar has the highest runs for any Indian against the Men in Green, his average is far below against this opposition compared to Kohli. Sachin has an average of 42.46 against South Africa, while Virat has an average of 55.39.

“My Wife Was Abused by Indian Fans”: Tabraiz Shamsi

Tabriz Shamsi calls out Indian fans for abuse: Proteas spinner Tabriz Shamsi calls out Indian fans for being abusive towards him and his family. The 33-year-old said that it was the worst he had ever experienced in his life.

Tabriz Shamsi calls out Indian fans for abuse

    Background

In the 2nd T20I series against India, Tabriz took Suryakumar Yadav’s wicket, and what became more noticeable was his unique ‘shoe’ celebration. Indian fans mistook it as disrespect to Suryakumar and took to social media to brutally harass the player and his family.

    Check Out:

    Reaction

Spinner felt that bringing family into the criticism was simply unacceptable.

“Some individuals perceived it negatively; they felt it was disrespectful. I faced a lot of verbal abuse, and it was perhaps the worst I’ve experienced. Unfortunately, even my wife was subjected to offensive comments. I found it unacceptable. Criticizing players is one thing, but bringing families into it and saying hurtful things crosses a line.”

He also understands the importance of speaking up to raise awareness about this particular problem.

“I believe that if players don’t speak out against bad behavior, then others assume it’s acceptable. It’s important that more people speak up and make it clear that such behavior is not okay. Yes, we all want to win, and we may disagree with some things, but we must still treat each other with respect. We can’t behave like animals.”

  • Rahul Extends Helping Hand to a Rabada-hit India

Rahul Extends Helping Hand to a Rabada-hit India

SA vs IND 1st Test Day 1 Report: The dream of taking over Proteas in a Test series on their land is yet to be a dream for India. And the current one was anticipated to be ‘the one’ considering India’s glittering performances in the World Cup as well as in the just-gone ODI series. The campaign of ‘Mushkil Hai Maza Aayega’ (It’s difficult but will be fun) prior to the series seems to be cut in half and chopped off the tail end because, as the first day went, it seems that India is in a ‘mushkil’ (difficult) situation.

India posted a score of 208 and lost their valuable eight within 59 thrilling overs at Centurion, leaving the game a bit evenly poised. Despite challenging conditions, KL Rahul’s 70* gave them the hand that they had been looking for since the start. South Africa, led by Kagiso Rabada‘s brilliant spell of 5-44, initially had India in a tough spot at 91 for 3, but Rahul’s exquisite strokeplay turned the tide.

SA vs IND 1st Test Day 1 Report

Batting first, India faced early setbacks with the losses of Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, and Yashasvi Jaiswal. However, a stroke of luck, with both Shreyas Iyer and Virat Kohli dropping on 4, allowed India to recover. Then, Rabada’s disciplined bowling changed the game. His precision, focusing on the top of the off stump, disrupted partnerships and troubled even the usually solid Kohli.

Kohli’s departure for 38, where he left a ball angled into off stump that seamed away, left India at 107 for 5. At this critical juncture, KL Rahul, initially 5 off 9, displayed exceptional control and resilience. Facing the possibility of a collapse with only a couple of bowling all-rounders and the tail to follow, Rahul’s unbeaten 70 became a special effort.

Rahul’s ability to navigate tough conditions, much like his hundred in the previous game at Centurion, showcased his problem-solving skills. He faced the challenge alone, finding the boundary approximately once every nine balls, steering India to a respectable total on a pitch not conducive to easy strokeplay. Despite facing hardships, Rahul’s innings demonstrated his reliability and crucial role in anchoring India’s innings.

  • Suryakumar Yadav Opens Up About His Ankle Injury, Makes Fun Over It In A Recent Video

Suryakumar Yadav Opens Up About His Ankle Injury, Makes Fun Over It In A Recent Video

Suryakumar Yadav Jokes About His Ankle Injury: Indian cricket team batter Suryakumar Yadav opened up about a recent ankle injury he suffered, revealing that he might be out for some time in a recent Instagram post.

Captaining India in the recent T20I series against South Africa, Yadav injured his ankle while fielding in the third and deciding match of the series.

Suryakumar Yadav Jokes About His Ankle Injury

Showcasing his recovery and time away from the sport, Suryakumar recently shared a video on Instagram. The video saw him walking with the help of a crutch as the background audio was the popular “Meri ek taang nakli hai” dialogue from the 2007 comedy ‘Welcome’.

Check Out: Suryakumar Yadav Suffers Severe Ankle Injury

In the caption of the video, Suryakumar opened up about dealing with injuries, then claiming that he will be back “in no time.”

“On a slightly serious note, injuries are never fun, but I’ll take it in my stride and promise to be back, fully fit, in no time! Till then, hope you all are enjoying the holiday season and finding little joys, every day.”

    Suryakumar Yadav

What looks clear from that video is that SKY will miss India’s three-match T20I series against Afghanistan in January. This was confirmed by a source to the Indian Express –

“He will take time to get back into the field. Suryakumar Yadav will report to the National Cricket Academy for his rehabilitation. He will miss the three-match T20I series against Afghanistan.”

Suryakumar Yadav has been ruled out till February 2024 due to a Grade II tear in his ankle. He is most likely to miss some cricket even beyond that time frame. The Mumbai Indians batter is expected to take the field in IPL 2024.

  • KL Rahul Bags This Rare Record After Virat Kohli

KL Rahul Bags This Rare Record After Virat Kohli

KL Rahul Equals Virat Kohli Record: KL Rahul led India to a remarkable ODI bilateral series victory against South Africa, securing a 2-1 win in the 3rd ODI in Paarl. This triumph at Boland Park marked India’s second-ever ODI bilateral series win in South Africa.

KL Rahul Equals Virat Kohli Record: A Future Captian in Making?

KL Rahul’s captaincy now stands alongside Virat Kohli as the only Indian captains to clinch a bilateral ODI series win in South Africa. What makes it even sweeter is that India accomplished this feat despite the absence of key players such as Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, and Mohammed Shami.

It is quite an achievement, considering that the last time India won an ODI bilateral series in South Africa was in 2018 under the leadership of Virat Kohli. In that series, India emerged triumphant with a 5-1 win in the six-match ODI series. Virat Kohli, named the Man of the Tournament, showcased a blistering performance by scoring 558 runs in six matches, guiding India to its first-ever ODI series win in South Africa.

Reflecting on KL Rahul’s captaincy record in ODIs during the years 2022–2023, he has led the team in 12 matches, securing eight wins and facing four losses, attaining a commendable win percentage of 66.66%. This underlines Rahul’s impactful leadership during this period.

The recent series win not only adds another feather to India’s cap but also establishes KL Rahul as a capable captain, contributing to India’s success on the international stage.

  • Sanju Smashed South Africa onto the Selector’s Face

Sanju Smashed South Africa onto the Selector’s Face

SA vs IND 3rd ODI Report: Sanju Samson, the other day, called himself the unluckiest player ever. This was not just a sudden outburst from a momentary thing he suffered, but the culmination of all the injustice he has been subjected to by Team India’s selectors. Though he has had better numbers than a lot of first-team players, Sanju’s fate was always to sit on the sidelines or not even reach there most of the time.

But when he got a chance to appear in the ODI against South Africa, which he got due to the outrage on social media against BCCI’s selective approach to players, Sanju showed why they have been on the wrong side of the decisions all the time. He smacked a thrilling 108, which gave India a win to bag the series 2-1.

In the series decider at Boland Park, India walked into a 78-run victory powered by Samson’s maiden ODI ton. South Africa, though it had a win over the toss, couldn’t capitalize on it on the pitch as India set a pretty strong total of 296 for 8. Answering that, despite a valiant effort from Tony de Zorzi, who scored 81, the South African innings crumbled under the impressive bowling of Arshdeep Singh and Washington Sundar.

The Kerala man’s 108 runs laid a strong foundation for India after they faced early setbacks with the dismissals of Rajat Patidar, B Sai Sudharsan, and KL Rahul. Samson, along with Tilak Verma, orchestrated a crucial 116-run partnership that anchored the innings through a challenging phase of slow and accurate spin bowling.

    ALSO SEE:

The initial momentum gained in the batting powerplay was momentarily lost as Tilak struggled against spin. However, the duo steadily built the innings, and once Tilak found his rhythm, the scoring rate accelerated. As per the South Africa vs India 3rd ODI Highlights, Samson’s patient and risk-free approach, coupled with Tilak’s fifty, set the stage for late fireworks.

Tilak’s departure for 52 did little to deter Samson, who went on to score an impressive 108 runs off 110 balls. His innings, characterized by calculated aggression, lifted India to a competitive total. Rinku Singh’s quickfire 38, supported by contributions from Washington and Arshdeep with the bat, propelled India to 296 for 8, including a remarkable 164 runs in the last 20 overs.

In response, South Africa faced early setbacks, losing key wickets to Arshdeep’s clinical bowling. Despite de Zorzi’s resilient innings, the hosts struggled to cope with the mounting required run rate. Washington Sundar further dented their hopes by dismissing Wiaan Mulder and crucially removing Aiden Markram with a well-executed catch behind the stumps.

Mukesh Kumar and Avesh Khan joined the bowling assault, picking off key wickets, including David Miller and Heinrich Klaasen. South Africa’s innings crumbled from 131 for 3 to 192 for 7, and Arshdeep’s four-wicket haul, complemented by Washington’s disciplined bowling, sealed India’s victory.

  • Arshdeep Singh and Avesh Khan Clobber Sout Africa

Arshdeep Singh and Avesh Khan Clobber Sout Africa

SA vs IND 1st ODI Report: Proteas got burned down under the fire of two Indian bowlers, Arshdeep Singh and Avesh Khan. Batting first, South Africa’s innings got folded up at their lowest home ODI total ever (116) when the bowling duo decided to give them a death dance, clinching 9 wickets between them.

India’s pace attack, armed with a combined seven wickets, wreaked havoc on South Africa in the Pink Day ODI. Arshdeep Singh’s five-for and Avesh Khan’s four-wicket haul, supported by Mukesh Kumar’s probing first over, bundled out South Africa for a mere 116. India comfortably chased down the target, securing an eight-wicket victory and handing South Africa only their third defeat in Pink Day ODIs.

The Pink Day encounter featured a treacherous pitch offering seam movement, swing, and uneven bounce, making batting a daunting task. Both teams aimed to bat first, unaware of the challenges posed by the unpredictable surface. South Africa’s decision to bat after winning the toss backfired as India’s pace trio dominated the early proceedings.

Despite nursing World Cup heartbreaks, both teams fielded relatively inexperienced line-ups. The absence of frontline fast bowlers, resting for the upcoming Test series, added an intriguing element to the clash. Mukesh Kumar’s fiery opening over set the tone, troubling Reeza Hendricks and setting the stage for Arshdeep’s five-wicket haul.

    Early Struggles

Mukesh Kumar’s inswinging deliveries troubled Hendricks, surviving an early lbw appeal. However, he fell victim to Arshdeep Singh’s inswinger, getting bowled for an eight-ball duck

Arshdeep Took Five, Avesh Got 4

Arshdeep’s precise inswingers rattled South Africa’s top order, claiming crucial wickets. Rassie van der Dussen fell for a golden duck, and Arshdeep continued the damage with the dismissals of de Zorzi and Klaasen.

Avesh Khan capitalized on the seam-friendly conditions, taking key wickets. His delivery that nipped back in dismissed Markram, and he followed it up with the crucial wicket of Mulder.

    Collapse Continues

As per the SA vs IND 1st ODI Report, Arshdeep and Avesh orchestrated South Africa’s collapse, with David Miller and Keshav Maharaj falling victim to their precision. Mukesh returned to pick up the wicket of Phehlukwayo.

India Made the Chase Duck Soup

Despite South Africa pulling lengths back, India comfortably chased down the target. Ruturaj Gaikwad fell early, but Sai Sudharsan, on debut, showcased class and composure with a half-century. Shreyas Iyer’s stylish innings of 52 guided India to victory with over 33 overs to spare.

SA vs IND 1st ODI Report: Score Summary

    India

South Africa vs India 3rd ODI: Three Players To Watch Out For

3 Players to Watch in SA vs IND 3rd ODI: The 3rd ODI between South Africa and India will finish the limited-overs section of this three-format tour. This match, despite not being confirmed to decide the winner of the ODI series, will definitely set the tone ahead of the final leg of this tour, the Test match series.

3 Players to Watch in SA vs IND 3rd ODI: #SAvsIND ODI Series

While the ODI series might be the least essential part of the tour when we look at the upcoming ICC tournaments, this series will see the most experimentation in squads. This is because each nation is looking to shake up their squads right at the start of the four-year cycle for the next ODI World Cup in 2027.

With all that in mind, here are 3 players to look out for in the 3rd ODI between South Africa and India

South Africa vs India 3rd ODI Player To Watch Out

    1) Rinku Singh

Rinku Singh is the latest exciting Indian batting prospect. And in a different flavor the talent coming up at the moment, he is an explosive batter with a natural ability to finish matches.

As per the 3 Players to Watch in SA vs IND 3rd ODI, While India has seen several top and middle over batters coming through their ranks in recent times, a proper finisher making their way to the team now means that the national team have young talent at every position in the side.

Only having represented India in T20Is at the moment, Rinku has spectacular stats in the format. In the 12 matches he has played, the Aligarh native has scored at an average of over 65 with a strike rate of over 180.

He has even shown his ability to finish matches in tight situations. Most famously, he hit five 6s in a row to end the match for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) against Gujarat Titans (GT) in IPL 2023.

Check Out: 3 Players to Watch in SA vs IND 3rd ODI

    2) Tabraiz Shamsi

Tabraiz Shamsi might be an unsung hero of the recent success of the South African national team. A former World no.1 T20I bowler, Shamsi has the ability to break partnerships and dig out wickets at unlikely moments.

The 33-year-old is one of the very few left-arm wrist-spinners in international cricket. And like his fellow disciplinarian Kuldeep Yadav, Shamsi has the ability to ravage through any batting order.

Especially on the pitches of the St George Cricket Stadium, where the pitch helps spinners in the second innings, he might play a vital role if South Africa are to win that match.

In order to 3 Players to Watch in SA vs IND 3rd ODI, He even showed his class in the recent ODI World Cup 2023, where he played only 4 matches but took 9 wickets.

Check Out: South Africa vs India 3rd ODI Player To Watch Out

    3) Tilak Varma

Tilak Varma is part of India’s long heritage of Under-19 World Cup players making their way to the senior team. An explosive top-middle over batter who can even bowl a few overs of finger-spin bowling.

As per 3 Players to Watch in SA vs IND 3rd ODI, Having washed his hands in the stream of T20I cricket for India for some time, Tilak is the latest of Mumbai Indians players looking to make a more permanent spot in the national side.

He has impressed in his limited time in the Indian jersey. Where in the 14 T20 innings he has played, Tilak has scored at an average of just under 35.

While it is obvious that India is looking at Tilak Varma as their new upper-middle-order lynchpin, the 21-year-old needs to step up across all formats of the game, starting in the ODI in the series against South Africa
