Bumrah refuses to take credit from Siraj: Mohammed Siraj and Jusprit Bumrah had an exceptional Test match at Cape Town, as both bowlers had a 6-wicket haul in the first and second innings, respectively. Their impressive performance helped India register the quickest Test victory ever in the history of the game.
Bumrah refuses to take credit from Siraj: Context
Though both had a six-wicket performance in the Test, Mohammed Siraj’s performance in the first innings was the key turning point as India could knock South Africa out for 55 runs. This made Siraj the Man of the Match.
When Siraj was going to have the post-match interview, he took Bumrah as well for translation. During the interview, Siraj loaded Bumrah with praise, but when Bumrah translated the same, he intentionally omitted the part where he was being praised.
“Jassi bhai hamesha, jo wo start karte hain toh woh message milta hai ki kya wicket pe konsi line aur length better hai. Toh message milne se mujhe zada sochne ki zarurat nahi rehti hai bas consistent (rehna hota hai). Wo chiz pe work karenge toh success milega toh yahi (Bumrah) agar saamne end pe rahe toh bohot hi accha hai,” Siraj said.
Translating the above, Bumrah said it this way:
“When we play along together, he gets the message a little earlier because of our experience. We try to analyze the wicket a little quicker so that communication goes through in the bowling circuit that this is the wicket and this is what we are looking to do. So that helps him sometimes.”
