In T20Is, he led India’s march towards the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 triumph in the USA and West Indies. In 8 T20Is in the tournament, Bumrah took 15 wickets at an average of 8.26 and an economy of 4.17. He bagged the Man of the Tournament award in the competition that India won by beating South Africa in the final in Barbados. In the final, Bumrah had figures of 2/18.
Among the other candidates for the ICC Men’s Cricketer of the Year 2024 award, Joe Root is a strong contender with Bumrah. Root finished as the highest run-scorer in Test cricket in 2024, scoring 1556 runs from 17 Tests at an average of 55.57. This is the fifth time in his career that Root finished with over 1000 Test runs in a calendar year. He slammed six centuries in the process.
Brook scored 1100 runs at an average of 55 with four centuries, while Travis Head hammered 608 runs from 9 Tests and 539 runs from 15 T20Is.
