Bowlers With Most 5-Wicket Hauls In IPL: T20 cricket over the past decade has evolved into a run-scoring fest. This trend has catapulted to another level over the last few IPL seasons as the pitches have tended to get more and more flat to an extent that some may even have found the matches a bit bland because of their nonstop run-scoring nature.
What this has meant is that the bowlers now cherish even a dot ball as they do with wickets, since wicket-taking has become even more challenging. Amid this batsmen-friendly format of the game and the heaps of high-scoring games, a few bowlers have left a huge impression during IPL matches by taking five-wicket hauls.
While over two dozen bowlers have taken five-wicket hauls in IPL, only four of them have done it on more than one occasion. Let us see the top four bowlers with the most five-wicket hauls in IPL history.
Top 4 Bowlers With Most 5-Wicket Hauls In IPL History
Bhuvneshwar Kumar – 2
Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who played for Sunrisers Hyderabad from 2014 to 2024, took two five-wicket hauls in IPL. His first five-for came against Punjab Kings in 2017, where his 5/19 helped SRH win by only five runs while defending 159 in Hyderabad.
His second IPL five-for came against Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad in IPL 2023. This time, though, his five-wicket haul went in vain as Shubman Gill’s ton helped GT win by 34 runs.
Jasprit Bumrah – 2
One of IPL’s greatest bowlers, Jasprit Bumrah, who has been a key figure in Mumbai Indians’ success, has two 5-wicket hauls in the IPL under his belt.
Bumrah’s maiden IPL five-for came in IPL 2022 against KKR at the DY Patil Stadium; his sensational figures of 5/10, however, ended in a losing cause. Bumrah’s second IPL five-wicket haul, which happened against RCB in IPL 2024 at the Wankhede, helped MI beat RCB by seven wickets.
Jaydev Unadkat – 2
Left-arm pacer Jaydev Unadkat took two 5-wicket hauls in IPL for two different teams. Bowling for Delhi against RCB in IPL 2013 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Unadkat took 5/25; yet, Delhi lost the thrilling match by four runs.
His second five-for occurred in IPL 2017 when he played for Rising Pune Supergiant against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Hyderabad. It was another close game, but this time Unadkat’s five-wicket haul starred in a winning cause.
James Faulkner – 2
Australia’s former left-arm seamer James Faulkner, one of cricket’s forgotten heroes of the 2010s, also has two IPL five-fors to his name, both coming in IPL 2013 and both against Sunrisers Hyderabad while he played for Rajasthan Royals.
Faulkner recorded figures of 5/20 in Jaipur and 5/16 in Hyderabad; both teams won their home games out of these two fixtures.
Who has the most five-wicket hauls in IPL history?
Four bowlers—Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah, Jaydev Unadkat, and James Faulkner—share the record of the most five-fors in IPL history with two five-wicket hauls each.
