India ended their wait for an ICC title—an 11-year wait—by defeating South Africa in the final of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 on June 29 in Barbados. Rohit Sharma’s team became the first side to remain undefeated in an ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
The win in the final, though, didn’t come with a huge scare, as Klaasen’s assault had left South Africa needing 30 runs in 30 balls, a walk in the park in T20 cricket these days. However, Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, and Arshdeep Singh produced five fantastic overs to seal the match by only seven runs.
This tournament was, undoubtedly, a competition where the bowlers dominated the batters, which was like a fresh breath of life after a batting-dominating IPL 2024 season.
In this article, we will see the five best bowlers in T20 World Cup 2024.
5 Best Bowlers in T20 World Cup 2024:
1. Jasprit Bumrah
The Man of the Tournament Jasprit Bumrah had an all-time great campaign where he was flawless throughout the competition. He is ranked third in the wickets column, with 15 scalps, but his impact was way more than just wickets: his economy of 4.17 is unbelievable in modern-day T20 cricket.
His four overs were world gold and he could barely concede a boundary, even scarcely in the powerplay. In the final, he returned with figures of 2/18 on a good batting pitch. Against Pakistan, he recorded figures of 3/14 as India defended 119.
He’s the best fast bowler in the world right now, across formats and in each format. He is unarguably India’s greatest white-ball pacer.
2. Arshdeep Singh
As the tournament progressed, Arshdeep kept getting better and better. The left-arm pacer took the new ball for India and he was picked ahead of Siraj in the line-up when India came to the West Indies.
He snapped 17 wickets in all at an average of 12.64 with a best of 4/9 against the USA. In the final, he picked 2/20, and conceded only four runs in the 19th over, leaving Hardik with 16 to defend.
3. Anrich Nortje
Coming from a forgettable IPL season, Nortje regained his reputation as one of the best T20 pacers in the world by returning with 15 wickets in the T20 World Cup. He was just behind Bumrah on economy, 5.74, among the top wicket-takers of the tournament.
Nortje used the pacy and bouncy conditions in the USA to great effect and was effective in changing his lengths in the West Indies. In the final against India, he picked 2/26. His best of 4/7 came against Sri Lanka.
4. Fazalhaq Farooqi
Afghanistan seamer Fazalhaq Farooqi was on the money almost always with the new ball in this tournament. He topped the wicket chart with 17 scalps at an average of only 9.41 with one five-fer and one four-fer. His economy of 6.31 was also impressive.
5. Rashid Khan
While this tournament proved Rashid’s emergence as a captain, he was clinical as usual with the ball as well. The wily leg-spinner picked up 14 wickets at an average of 12.78. In a must-win game against Bangladesh, he returned with sensational bowling figures of 4/23.
