Knee Injury and Rehabilitation: Ben Stokes opts out of IPL 2024
Following the World Cup, Stokes revealed plans for knee surgery, a procedure he had postponed. His return timeline will be determined based on his rehabilitation, in consultation with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).
Stokes, the most expensive purchase for Super Kings at INR 16.25 crore in the 2023 IPL auction, played only two games in the season due to a left knee injury. Initially, he started the season as a specialist batter. The longstanding knee issue resurfaced during England’s tour of New Zealand in February.
Despite his limited appearances, Stokes showcased his batting prowess in the T20 World Cup. Playing six out of nine games for England, he emerged as the team’s second-highest run-scorer, accumulating 304 runs with two half-centuries and a century. Notably, he did not bowl during the tournament.
As the England Test captain, Stokes remains optimistic about participating in the upcoming five-Test series in India, scheduled from January 25 to March 11. Expressing his commitment to recovery, he aims to be in prime condition for the challenging Test series in India.
