BCCI extends the contract of Dravid as Head Coach: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Rahul Dravid came to an agreement, and his contract as India men’s head coach has been extended.
The announcement was made by the BCCI on Wednesday in a release. However, and quite interestingly, the BCCI release didn’t mention the period of the tenure of this renewed contract, whereas when Rahul Dravid took over in November 2021, it was publicly confirmed that his first contract was until the World Cup 2023, which expired 11 days ago.
During this 10-day period, it was reported that Rahul Dravid was reluctant to renew his contract, but the BCCI offered him an extension because the board wants to ensure continuity in the structure that Dravid and Rohit have placed over the past two years.
BCCI extends the contract of Dravid as Head Coach: Assistant Coaches Get The Deal Too
Along with BCCI extends the contract of Dravid as Head Coach, the BCCI has also extended the contracts of the assistant coaches, namely Vikram Rathour, the batting coach, bowling coach Paras Mhambrey, and T Dilip, who is the fielding coach.
Cricbuzz has reported that Rahul Dravid’s renewed contract is until next year’s T20 World Cup in June. This period will include an important tour of South Africa, where India will play 3 T20Is, 3 ODIs, and 2 Tests. Under Dravid, India lost the 2021/22 Test series in South Africa, after which Virat Kohli resigned as the Test skipper.

Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma joined hands in late 2021, with the BCCI and the fans hoping for them to bring ICC silverware, which the senior men’s team hasn’t won since 2013.
However, what followed were more heartbreaks and knockout losses. India lost the semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2022 vs England in Adelaide, the WTC Final vs Australia at The Oval, and the World Cup 2023 final vs Australia again, at Ahmedabad.
But the BCCI was happy with India’s showing in their 10-match winning streak during the World Cup, which saw fans compare this Indian team with the Australian side of 2003 and 2007 before the Men In Blue failed at the final frontier.
After the South Africa tour in December-January, India will be hosting Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum’s England for a 5-Test series. India haven’t lost a home Test series for 10 years, and the Indian fans are hoping that the record will continue, even against England’s Bazball team.
