BBL13-Thunder vs Heat Match-6 Report: With a 20-run win over the Sydney Thunder in Canberra, the Brisbane Heat wrested back their position at the top of the points table in less than 24 hours of being displaced by the Sydney Sixers.
Colin Munro’s side now has 5 points in 3 games (2 wins, 1 washout), while Chris Green’s team suffered a disappointing loss in their opening match of their campaign as they failed to chase down the target of 152 runs.
It was a low-scoring encounter on a two-paced surface; no batsman across both teams reached a half-century.

Sydney Thunder vs Brisbane Heat As it happened
Asked to bat first, Brisbane lost opener Josh Brown in the 4th over. After that, Munro and Nathan McSweeney were kept quiet by the Thunder bowlers. Munro eventually freed his arms to collect 2 fours and 2 sixes, but lost his wicket to a superb boundary catch by Nathan McAndrew after scoring 46 runs.
Tanveer Sangha, the young Thunder leggie, took three wickets, those of McSweeney, Matt Renshaw, and Paul Walter. Three Brisbane batters—McSweeney, Renshaw, and Billings—scored between 20 and 30 as the Heat ended with 151/7, which seemed like a par total at that point.

As it turned out, the 151 by Brisbane would be 20 runs more than what Sydney would manage as the Heat spin twins, Mitchell Swepson and Matthew Kuhnemann, along with the tidy Walter, choked the Thunder.
All three of them took two wickets each and conceded at a combined economy of only 6 runs per over, virtually deciding the game during that phase. Medium pacer Xavier Bartlett was the top wicket-taker with 3 wickets.
Early on, Cameron Bancroft (25 runs in 19 balls) and the middle Oliver Davies (35 runs in 30 balls) looked good in the middle on the pitch that got trickier as the game progressed. Skipper Chris Green, with his 30 runs in 20 balls, kept Sydney somewhat alive in the chase, but the match was effectively sealed by his wicket in the 18th over.
