BBL13-Sixers vs Renegades Match-2 Report: After a one-sided BBL 2023/24 opening match between Brisbane Heat and Melbourne Stars, fans witnessed a last-over thriller in match number 2 of the BBL 13.
At the Sydney Cricket Ground, the Sydney Sixers and Melbourne Renegades produced a really close contest that was decided only on the penultimate ball of the match, with the hosts prevailing by merely 8 runs in the end.
Melbourne Renegades all-rounder Will Sutherland was at his best with both ball and bat—he registered figures of 2/21 in 4 overs and then smashed 51* runs in 30 balls with 4 sixes—but it wasn’t enough to take his side over the line in the chase of 176, which the Sydney Sixers had set them courtesy of a sizzling knock from veteran Steve Smith, who is finding his feet in T20 cricket as an opener. With the help of 7 fours and one six, Smith plundered 61 runs in 42 balls and bagged the Man of the Match award.
As per the BBL13-Sixers vs Renegades Match-2 Report, Josh Philippe, who scored 29 off 17 balls, and Smith formed an opening stand of 58 runs in 5 overs. Jordan Silk’s quickfire cameo of 26* runs in 14 balls propelled the Sixers to 175.

In reply, the Renegades got off to a poor start, losing captain Nic Maddinson to Jackson Bird, Joe Clarke to a run-out, and Jordan Cox to Ben Dwarshuis inside the five overs, all three on single digits.
21-year-old Jake Fraser-McGurk charged Renegades’ counter-attack with a stunning knock of 48 runs in 24 balls, flaying 5 fours and 3 eye-catching sixes. On the other end, Aaron Finch played a supporting role, albeit very slowly for the required rate, scoring 33 runs in 31 balls.
When the game seemed gone for the Renegades, Sutherland came out swinging to blast four sixes but fell short in the last over. Dwarshuis took three wickets, including the game-changing one of Fraser-McGurk.
