BBL13-Hurricanes vs Sixers Match-5 Report: Moises Henriques’ Sydney Sixers went to the top of the points table with their second win in two games to get early momentum in BBL 2023/24. In match number 5 of the BBL 13 season, the Sydney Sixers defeated Nathan Ellis’ Hobart Hurricanes at the North Tasmania Cricket Association Ground in Launceston.
Hobart Hurricanes vs Sydney Sixers As It Happened:
Hobart skipper Nathan Ellis won the toss and elected to bat first. The Hurricanes got off to a decent start with Caleb Jewell and Matthew Wade cracking some boundaries in their brief yet impactful opening stand of 34 runs in 16 balls.
Wade was dismissed by Jack Edwards in the third over, and Jewell, who scored 42 attractive runs in 24 balls, by Tom Curran in the 6th over. After that, Hobart’s innings got derailed to such an extent that they couldn’t recover at all.
Left-arm pacer Ben Dwarshuis, who has been in brilliant T20 form in the past month, dented the Hurricanes middle-order with wickets of Sam Hain and Tim David in quick succession. Tom Curran returned in the death overs to take out Corey Anderson and Patrick Dooley.
Apart from Jewell, no other Hobart batter could score more than 20 runs, as the Hurricanes finished at 135/8.

In the reply, the Sydney Sixers lost James Vince for 5 runs to speedster Riley Meredith and Josh Philippe for 16 runs to Corey Anderson, who would later also nip out the Sixers skipper, Moises Henriques, in the 14th over.
But experienced left-handed batsman Daniel Hughes produced a brilliantly calm and mostly chanceless innings of 60* runs in 50 balls to see his side over the line. Jordan Silk, another BBL-experienced batter, scored 23 runs, and Henriques scored 20 runs.
These small contributions by Silk and Henriques, in partnerships with Hughes, were enough to help the Sixers win the game by 6 wickets, though they would have liked to do it much earlier than in the 19.2 overs they took to chase down 136 runs.
BBL13-Hurricanes vs Sixers Match-5 Report: Man of the Match:
Daniel Hughes was named the Man of the Match for his stabilizing and anchoring innings of 60* runs, made with the help of 4 fours and a six.
