Bayern Munich vs Werder Bremen Highlights: Bayern Munich is off to the races in the 2023-24 Bundesliga season as the defending champions thrash Werder Bremen 4-0 in the season opener on August 18 in Bremen’s Weserstadion. The match also made headlines for it being England captain Harry Kane’s debut in the German league. The 30-year-old, who was bought from Tottenham Hotspur for 120M Euros, scored one and assisted another in a comfortable win for the Bavarian side.
After a disappointing 0-3 loss to RB Leipzig in the DFL-Supercup, Thomas Tuchel’s side showed the way they intend on playing this season with Kane spearheading their attack.

The 32-time Bundesliga winners did not take much time for their first goal, as Leroy Sane opened the scoring in the fourth minute after a 1-2 assist from Kane. It was the Englishman himself who doubled the score in the 73rd minute. Sane took his tally to two for Bayern’s third goal in the 90th minute. Mathys Tel then buried the game at 90+4 minutes by making it 4-0.
Bremen did take a couple of good shots at the target, most notable of which being Niclas Fullkrug heading the ball to the back of the net off a sublime freekick by fellow strike partner Marvin Ducksch. In the 70 minutes between Bayern’s first and second goal, Bremen tried to catch the German giants off guard, but to no avail.
Apart from that, the game belonged to Bayern Munich, who smacked the goalpost on a couple of occasions, with Kingsley Coman and Joshua Kimmich coming close to scoring on multiple occasions.

It was not only the result that shows Bayern Munich’s domination of Werder Bremen in the two side’s most recent clash. Not only did Bayern score four goals, but they also had 73% possession and completed 90% of their 664 passes.
The side also took 25 shots, 10 of them being on target. This is compared to one out of six on target for Werder Bremen.

Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel, who has been sitting on the hot seat as of late, discussed his side’s impressive performance on the opening day of Bundesliga’s 2023-23 season. Talking about how Bayern gave a clean and consistent performance, Tuchel said in the post-match conference –
“We played a very solid, very good game from start to finish, had no ups and downs, neither in concentration nor in energy or compactness. We did our thing… We had a good mix between controlled play and quick attacks. Our counter-pressing was good, we didn’t give them much space. After an impressive league debut, the former Tottenham captain Harry Kane had this to say about the match –
“It was a great evening… I’m glad I was able to score the second goal. After that, the guys who came off the bench did a great job securing the three points. Of course, I was a bit nervous, particularly because of the new environment and the new club. Bayern Munich has a relatively easy start to the 2023-24 Bundesliga season, with them facing FC Augsburg next on August 37. They will not face a top 6 team from last season till Leverkusen on Matchday 4 (September 16). Their first big challenge will be on Matchday 7, when Bayern takes on RB Leipzig on September 30
