Bangladesh Captain Praises Mehidy Hasan Miraz: Bangladesh Cricket Team captain Najmul Hasan Shanto has lauded allrounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz for his role in the team whitewashing Pakistan in the recent Test series. The skipper believes that the star-allrounder will deliver against India in the upcoming series as well.
Shanto’s men created cricketing history. First, they defeated the Pakistan Cricket Team in Pakistan for the first time when they won the first match of the two-Test series. The visitors then won the second Test after falling to 26/6 at one point. This was Bangladesh’s first Test series win against the Men in Green.
While Liton Das was named the Player of the Match for the second Test for his awesome 138-run inning where he rescued the batting order from a humiliating collapse, it was Miraz who was named the Player of the Series. In the first match, he scored 77 runs in the first inning and took five wickets in the game, which included a spell of 4/21 in the second inning.
In the second match, Mehidy Hasan took a five-wicket haul in the first inning and scored over 100 runs combined in both innings, which included a 78-run inning in the first. With two 50s and 10 wickets in a two-match series, it is no surprise that Mehidy Hasan Miraz won the Player of the Series award.
Following the win in the second Test, skipper Najmul Hasan Shanto discussed how huge the series was for the national team.
Means a lot, can’t express in words. Really happy. We were looking to win here and very happy with the way everyone has done their job. Very impressive; the work ethic of our pacers was great, and that’s why we got the result. Everyone is honest with themselves, and they want to win. I hope they continue. Joy missed out because of a niggle, and the way Shadman batted in the first Test was excellent. And even Zakir in this Test, came out positive and got us the momentum,” he said.
With a historic triumph over Pakistan, the Bangla Tigers now have India in their future. The two-Test series, to be played in India, will commence on September 19 and will be the next stop in the team’s Asia tour.

Following the win over Pakistan, Shanto discussed how crucial Miraz’s role in the win was and stressed that he, along with veteran allrounder Shakib Al Hasan, would be important if they were to win anything against India, saying,
“(On Miraz) The way he bowled and took 5 wickets in these conditions is very impressive, and we hope he can do the same against India. The next series is very important, and this win gives us a lot of confidence. We have a lot of experience in Mushi and Shakib, and they will be important in India.”
The first India vs Bangladesh Test match will start on September 19 and will be played in Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium. This will be followed by the second Test in Kanpur’s Green Park. The tour will then end with a three-match T20I series.
