Star Pakistan batsman and T20I captain Babar Azam seems to be having a tough time with the bat in hand. His on-field frustrations with a lack of runs have mounted, and that has seeped into his body language during the net sessions as well.
In a video that has gone viral ahead of the PAK vs BAN test series, Azam kicked a stump with brutality after edging the ball. In what could simply have been a learning lesson for Babar, the senior Pakistani batsman took the chance to display his rising frustration with himself.
Babar is going through a difficult phase. He lost his white-ball captaincy last year after Pakistan failed to reach the semi-final of the 2023 World Cup and stepped down as the Test skipper. However, he was reinstated as the T20I captain this year, but his team was knocked out in the group round of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 after defeats against the USA and India.
His own form has been disappointing. In 20 international innings this year across formats, Babar has managed only 709 runs at an average of 37 and not managed to register a single century. He would be hoping to get to his first three-figure mark of 2024 in the upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh.
Babar Azam Kicks a Stump After Edging a Ball in the Nets
Ahead of the first Test in Rawalpindi, Babar and Pakistani players are training hard and sweating it out in the nets.
In a viral video, Babar edged a ball well outside the off-stump and away from his body. He tried to play a cover drive but managed a thick outside edge. The bowler knew he had dismissed the senior batter and celebrated, while Babar turned back and, in anger, kicked at a stump, sending it cartwheeling. Moments later, he had to pick it up and put the stump back in its place.
