Babar Azam Continues to be the Topscorer of PSL: On either side of a duck, Babar Azam produced two match-winning knocks, against two of the strongest teams in the PSL 2024 season: 111* against Islamabad United and 64 against Multan Sultans. This has helped not only his team, Peshawar Zalmi, collect points and push for a top-four finish, but the Zalmi skipper has also strengthened his hold on the numero uno spot in the runs chart this season.
394 runs in 7 Innings: Babar Azam Continues to be the Topscorer of PSL
Babar Azam’s latest knock of 64 runs took his season tally to 394 runs. He has scored these runs in only 7 innings at a tremendous average of 65 and a strike rate of 152. This strike rate from Babar has been praised and appreciated by the fans who have laid criticism on him, and Mohammad Rizwan in the past about scoring slowly.
While Babar has upped his strike rate, Rizwan’s strike rate this season is still under 130 (124 to be precise at the time of writing), but since Multan are at the top of the points table, it hasn’t been talked about much.

In Babar’s latest knock against Multan in Rawalpindi, he scored 64 runs in 40 balls. Even though he was the only half-centurion in Peshawar innings, others chipped in. Saim Ayub scored 46 off 22, Haseebullah Khan scored 31 off 20, Rovman Powell scored 23* off 15, and Zalmi posted 204.
Such a score in the PSL is still not safe, and it proved almost that when Iftikhar Ahmed was blasting fours and sixes in the latter half of Multan’s innings. Iftikhar walloped 5 sixes and 4 fours in his destructive knock of 60* runs in 27 balls. At the other end, Chris Jordan cracked 3 fours and 2 sixes in a space of 12 balls as the pair took the game to the last over, needing 21 runs in 6 balls.
They even hit two fours and a six in the last over, but 21 runs proved a bit too much for even them as Zalmi escaped by 4 runs. Babar Azam’s team now has 9 points in 8 games and is third in the points table. At the second spot is Quetta with 9 points in 6 games, and Multan lead the table with 12 points in 8 games.
