While the pitch was regularly sticky, something the batters could manage, the bounce was lower than what one would expect. Bangladesh got off to a poor start as Tanzid Hasan lost his wicket for a duck in the first over.
From here, Liton Das and captain Najmul Hossain Shanto formed a slow yet steady partnership. While Shanto kept up the run rate with a few boundaries here and there, Das was batting with a strike rate well below 100. In the ninth over, the low bounce and the pressure to score caught up with Liton Das, who was bowled by Adam Zampa for 16 in 25 balls.
From this point, wickets started consistently falling. Rishad Hossain was dismissed in the 10th over, and captain Shanto was caught with his leg before the wicket by Zampa in the 13th over.
It took Bangladesh 15 overs to get to the 100-run mark, soon after which Shakib Al Hasan was dismissed on 8-off-10. At 103/5 in the 17th, Bangladesh started scoring some quick runs at the hands of Towzid Hridoy.

Pat Cummins came in to bowl the 18th over, and on the fifth ball of the over, he bowled Manmadullah. The next ball saw him dismiss Mehedi Hasan by getting caught at third-man.
The first ball of the 20th over, which was also bowled by Cummins, saw Hridoy get out while attempting a scoop and getting caught at fine-leg. This was the first hat-trick of the 2024 T20 World Cup, the seventh overall in the history of the competition, and Australia’s first since Brett Lee in the 2007 edition.
Bangladesh ended their inning at 140/8 at the end of their 20 overs.
Australia got off to a flying start as David Warner and Travis Head looked to attack from the first over. It looked like not only did Australia want to win the match, but win it as soon as possible.
Warner and Head kept the run rate around 10 rpo in the powerplay. But in the seventh over, Travis Head was bowled by Rishad Hossain. With the score 65/1, in walked captain Mitchell Marsh.
Having scored only one run in six balls, Marsh was dismissed by Hossain in the ninth over. With two quick wickets, Australia’s run rate fell quite a lot, but David Warner stayed on the attack, quickly bringing it close to 20 rpo once again. Glenn Maxwell joined in the party as well, scoring 14-off-6.
David Warner reached his 50 in the 11th over, and on the second ball of the 12th, Australia reached the 100-run mark.
But as soon as that happened, the drizzles that were falling turned into strong rain. At this point, Australia was 28 runs ahead of the DLS score, and it would remain that way. The rain didn’t stop, and the players never returned to the pitch. It was declared that Australia had won the game by 28 runs.
For taking a hat-trick in this game, Pat Cummins was named the Player of the Match. As for Australia, they are now on top of Group 1 of the Super 8 with 2 points. They are ahead of India in second, which also has 2 points.
