At the start of Day Two, Nathan McSweeney and Marnus Labuschagne were on strike. But a few overs into the day, McSweeney became Jasprit Bumrah’s second wicket of the inning. Soon after, the bad form of Steve Smith continued as he was dismissed by Bumrah for just two runs.
At 103/3, the Men in Blue could hope that they would take a lead in the first inning, but Labuschagne and Travis Head had other plans. The two built a solid partnership together, ensuring that Australia would take the lead. Just 12 runs before the scores would be level, Marnus Labuschagne would be dismissed by Nitish Kumar Reddy.
The remainder of the Kangaroo inning would belong to Travis Head, who slogged the bowlers from one end while the batters on the other end struggled to keep their wickets. Head would first reach his 50, and then his 100. In the meantime, Mitchell Marsh and Alex Carey lost their wickets cheaply.
Head was ultimately dismissed by Mohammed Siraj. The two even exchanged some heated words following the dismissal. But this time, the score was 310/7, the Australians had taken a 130-run lead, and Head was leaving the field after scoring 140 off 141 balls.

Mitchell Marsh and captain Pat Cummins then kept the innings going a little longer before Cummins became Bumrah’s fourth wicket at a personal score of 12. Starc hit a few boundaries before he was dismissed by Siraj. And it was Siraj who cleaned the inning up by getting Scott Boland bowled out.
At the end of the Australian inning, a few overs into the third session of Day Two, the home side had reached a score of 337, which gave them a 157-run lead. Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj took four wickets each. However, Bumrah bowled much more economically.
With such a massive lead, the Aussies are now in the driving seat and will be looking to take a few wickets before the end of Day Two’s play in the second India vs Australia Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
