Australia squad for ICC Champions Trophy 2025: The injured pair of Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood has been named in Australia’s squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. The ninth edition of the Champions Trophy will be played from February 19 to March 9 in a hybrid model across Pakistan and Dubai.
India’s matches will be played in Dubai, while Lahore, Karachi, and Rawalpindi will host the non-India games in the competition.
Australia are one of the strong contenders to lift the title. They are reigning ODI World Cup champions, having won their sixth ODI World Cup title in 2023 by beating India in the final in Ahmedabad.
However, there is an injury cloud over their captain, Cummins. Cummins will miss the upcoming Test series in Sri Lanka due to the birth of his child. But it was revealed after the Border-Gavaskar Trophy that he was managing an ankle issue during the Test series against India.

Chair of selectors George Bailey said that they are awaiting results from Cummins’ scans to determine the timeline of his recovery. This is the preliminary squad that they have announced, and all teams are allowed to make changes to their squads until about one week before the start of the tournament.
Bailey said,
”I want to give him a little bit of space at the back end of the Border-Gavaskar; obviously, baby pending. We’ll work through that with Pat and obviously the selection panel and the medical team…but I know he’s very keen.”
Hazlewood missed three Tests in the BGT due to a calf injury. He will miss the Sri Lanka tour as well but is expected to be fit for the Champions Trophy.
Meanwhile, Australia have picked all-rounders Matthew Short and Aaron Hardie in the squad that already includes Mitchell Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, and Travis Head, though Hardie and Marsh are not to bowl much. Fast bowler Nathan Ellis is the backup pacer to the big three, while Sean Abbott misses out.
Josh Inglis, who is recovering from a calf strain, and Alex Carey are the wicketkeepers. Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne provide stability to the middle order. Adam Zampa is the lone frontline spinner; he will have Maxwell, Head, and Short in support. Mitchell Starc is the pace attack leader.
Australia are in Group B along with England, South Africa, and Afghanistan.
