Australia Champions Trophy 2025 SWOT Analysis: The Australian Cricket Team will enter this competition as the current ODI world champions, having won the 2023 World Cup. The most successful ODI side of all time will enter the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 to win this tournament for the third time ever. This will be their chance to do something they did in 2023 as well, win two ICC tournaments in a year, as the Aussies are in the World Test Championship final as well. Will Australia be able to continue its fine form in 2025? What are Australia chances of winning CT 2025?
Firstly, we will look at the 15-man Australia squad for the upcoming tournament—

Strengths
This team has a lot of experience, not only in international cricket but also in winning trophies. Several players here have been former ODI world champions, T20 world champions, and Test world champions. The likes of Steve Smith, Travis Head, Alex Carey, and Adam Zampa have won it all in international cricket.
Another strength of this team is how some of their best players are known to do very well in ICC tournaments. Like Travis Head, who was the star of the 2023 ODI World Cup and World Test Championship final. And Adam Zampa, who was the highest wicket-taking spinner of the 2024 WC. Glenn Maxwell hit arguably the greatest inning in cricket history of all time in the ‘23 WC against Afghanistan.
This Australian side is filled with limited-overs specialists, as this side does not have a lot of overlap with the Test side. While many might consider it a weakness, role and format speciality is something Australia understands and wins world titles with.
Lastly, this might be the final chance for some of the biggest names on the side to win the first Champions Trophy for the first time in their careers. The likes of captain Steve Smith and Glenn Maxwell are in their mid-30s and might not play another CT.

Weaknesses
Surprisingly, this side has a lot of weaknesses going into the Champions Trophy 2025. The most obvious thing to point out here is how this is the team that has been bitten by the injury bug the worst. The likes of Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, and Mitchell Marsh are out with injuries. There is also Mitchell Starc, who is out due to personal reasons, and Marcus Stoinis, who has retired from ODI cricket. With so many big-name absences, the Australia team that will enter CT 2025 will be a very light version of their full squad, especially in terms of bowling.
Opportunities
The Australian Cricket Team can take advantage of the relatively flatter surfaces in Pakistan. A team with some of the best hitters of the ball in the world can just bat sides out of a match. The likes of Travis Head, Glenn Maxwell, and Jake Fraser-McGurk can score so quickly on these pitches that their lacklustre bowling might not have to do too much.
Speaking of that “lacklustre” bowling, the pacers in this side have the opportunity to do well and become the top fast bowlers of their country, overtaking the likes of Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, and Mitchell Starc.
Threats
The threats to this team will be provided by them being in the “group of death” Group B. In their group are England, South Africa, and Afghanistan. While the Aussies usually do well in tournament conditions, if all the absences from their side catch up to them, they will have to face some tough sides. South Africa might be the best all-format team in the world with several young and veteran matchwinners. England, despite coming into this competition in poor form and in transition, still is one of the deadliest sides in the world. While Afghanistan provides an underrated threat to any side. Who will know it more than Australia, seeing that the Kangaroos were nearly defeated and knocked out of the 2023 WC by the Afghans if not for Maxwell’s 200?
Australia expected playing XI:
Travis Head, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Steve Smith (C), Marnus Labuschagne, Glenn Maxwell, Alex Carey, Aaron Hardie, Adam Zampa, Ben Dwarshuis, Nathan Ellis, Spencer Johnson
