Atletico fans do not want Joao Felix to return: Atletico Madrid fans went furious with their ‘raised boy’ Joao Felix and demanded the club not let him return to the club after the loan deal with Barcelona is over.
What’s Smoking in the Kitchen?
Well, the kitchen has been full of smoke for a while, especially after Joao Felix decided to throw a dig at Atleticoletico Madrid’s manager, Diego Simeone. He had criticized Atleti for being too defensive in their approach to the game.
“For sure, [I prefer] this style [at Barcelona]—me and every player. If you ask every player, if you ask the players from Atletico, too, they would prefer to play more time on the attack, for sure. If they don’t answer that, they are lying. Of course, every player wants to attack, wants to have the ball, and to score goals.”
Well, do you think it would have gone well with the red and white-striped Madrid fans? Of course not. They felt disrespected as the comments were from one of their own, at least according to them. When this was boiling inside the oven, Atletico Madrid played a match against Joao Felix’s Barcelona. And this match showed how ripped off they are from each other.
From Joao Celebrating the Goal to Smeone Ducking the Portuguese.
Joao Felix was excited to go into the match. He said to ESPN that he would love to play against his older mates, and he wants to see how it will play out.
“It’s a special game for me. Atletico was my home for the last four years, so of course I [left] with some good moments there. It’s always special to play against my old teammates. It will be good to see them again and to see how we play against them.”
Well, we understood how much he meant these words when the game started rolling on. He scored the only goal of the game in the 28th minute, which ended Atletico on the losing side. But you can’t be angry at a footballer for scoring a goal, because that’s his job. The real reason that made the Atletico Madrid fans go crazy was the celebration of Joao Felix after scoring the goal. Fans think that it is ‘ungrateful and disrespectful’ to treat one’s parent club like that.

How Did All This Started?
When Atletico Madrid signed Joao Felix, he was almost seen as another Cristiano Ronaldo. But it didn’t take long for everything to start falling apart for the Portuguese golden boy. Simeone’s rigid defensive game never suited him, and the coach was never willing to change his tactics to accommodate a talent who had a lot to offer. This actually ripped them apart and even ended up with Simeone criticizing the player for not being committed to the game. So after all, Joao’s criticism of Simeone’s playing style has some elements of truth.
Atletico Fans Do Not Want Joao Felix to Return
The spokesperson for the International Union of Supporters Clubs of Atletico Madrid, Alberto Gracia, released a statement demanding Joao’s return never happen.
“It was his second goal in La Liga; it’s not like he’s having a great season. It is ungrateful and disrespectful to a fan base that has been his and has treated him well. He has generated a hostile atmosphere for the Metropolitano, and we do not want to see him again with the Atletico Madrid shirt on. He doesn’t deserve (the club) and he hasn’t understood this club or these fans.”
What Is Next For Joao Felix?
It is almost certain that Felix’s return to Atletico Madrid after the events that happened between them is highly unlikely. He had also expressed his desire to play for Barcelona earlier. If Barcelona gives him a permanent contract, it’s good for everyone. But Atletico Madrid would ask for a fortune to let him go. Whether Barcelona will be willing to pay that kind of money is something that should be waited for and seen.
