Arshdeep Singh had an impressive record-breaking spell for India against the USA. The youngster destroyed the USA batters to give India a 7-wicket win and qualify for the Super 8.
During the postmatch presser, Arshdeep was asked about batting at No. 9 against Pakistan, with which he had a lot of success. The bowler scored 13 runs, which was pivotal for India’s 6-run victory against their arch-rivals.
Arshdeep Sing said that he asked Rohit Sharma if he could bat at No. 9, where normally Jasprit Bumrah bats. The 25-year-old even surprised Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma as their expressions from the stands went viral.
Arshdeep Singh Wants to Bat Ahead of Bumrah
Having faced one of the most lethal bowling attacks in the world against Pakistan, Arshdeep is now fearless to bat at No. 9 and says he would go bat at the same position regardless of who says what.
“Jassi Bhai (Bumrah) was supposed to go before me, but I just went in after asking Rohit. They were surprised with it, but now I told them I will go up regardless of whatever you say. I will go at nine because I faced the quickest bowlers in the last game. So yeah, that’s the plan now. I am very confident about my batting. And be it fielding or bowling, you just try to keep getting better.”
What Happened in the Match?
USA batting first had put forth 110 runs to chase in the power of Nitish Kumar (27/23) and Steven Taylor (15/12). Apart from Arshdeep’s 4-wicket haul, Hardik Pandya had 2 wickets for India.
Chasing that, India lost their openers really quickly: Virat Kohli for a golden duck and Rohit Sharma for 3 runs. Suryakumar Yadav (50*/49) and Shivam Dube (31*/35) then took on the rescue mission and led India to a 7-wicket victory.
What’s Next for Arshdeep Singh?
Arshdeep and Co. will face Canada on June 15, a match that would be more of a warm-up as the Blues have already secured their place in the Super 8 of the competition.
