Arsenal Looking To Sign Riccardo Calafiori: Premier League sides Liverpool and Arsenal have their eyes on 22-year-old Italian defender Riccardo Calafiori in this summer’s transfer window.
Calafiori, who represented Italy in the 2024 UEFA Euros, had been one of the side’s most impressive players before the defending champions were knocked out in the Round of 16 by Switzerland following a 2-0 defeat.
Having been a standout performer at an international tournament, several teams will be looking for the Italian to sign for them. That is now happening, as Arsenal and Liverpool have shown interest in him.
Riccardo Calafiori currently plays for Serie A side Bologna. The team had a fine campaign in the Italian league in the 2023–24 season, as they finished fifth in the table and will play in the Europa League next season. Calafiori was also named the league’s Player of the Month for May 2024.
Arsenal Looking To Sign Riccardo Calafiori
Football journalist Fabrizio Romano has reported that Arsenal has shown interest in signing Riccardo this summer. In a recent chat with GiveMeSport, he had this to say:
“For Calafiori, Arsenal made an inquiry to understand the situation of the player. I mean, it’s also normal when you are looking for a left-footed player, a left-foot defender. Riccardo Calafiori is one of the best available now on the market.”
He elaborated on the situation further by saying this:
“So Arsenal have been showing their interest in the situation. But at the moment, it’s not a negotiation. There is no bid; there is no contact with Bologna, so it’s just an inquiry to understand the situation of Calafiori.”
But Arsenal, who finished second in the Premier League race for a second season running, is not the only club interested in signing the Italian, as Liverpool has made an official inquiry with Calafiori’s camp.
While UK media outlet The Mirror reported Liverpool’s interest in Riccardo Calafiori, Fabrizio Romano took to social media to reveal that several other clubs, including Italian giants Juventus, are interested in signing him as well.
Some reports have also emerged that Chelsea is also interested in Calafiori’s signature.
One team that is not likely to have the defender in their squad next season is his current club, Bologna. Riccardo Calafiori’s contract with Bologna has now expired, and there is next to no chance of him re-signing with the club.
