After years of Europa League appearances, Arsenal made it to the Champions League this season following a close title fight in the Premier League the season before. In 2022-23, the London-based side finished second in the English top tier after being no.1 for most of the season. Now in Europe’s premier international club tournament, Arsenal is in a group featuring Sevilla, last season’s Ligue 1 runner-up Lens, and last season’s Eredivisie runner-up PSV.

Arsenal came into their third Champions League 2023-24 match with a win against PSV, and a loss against Lens. With three points on the table, Arsenal entered the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium to face Sevilla. They attacked well, were forced to fall back on defence quickly, and were needed to hold the ball for long stretches of time.
The first goal came from left-wing Gabriel Martinelli’s foot after a great counter-attack in the injury time of the first half (45+3 minutes). The second goal for Arsenal was scored by centre-forward Gabriel Jesus, who curled the ball around Sevilla’s goalkeeper Ørjan Nyland in the 53rd minute.

Sevilla did push back the lead soon after in the 58th minute when defender Nemanja Gudelj scored off of a corner routine. The following minutes saw Sevilla firing some good shots at the Arsenal goal but to no good result. This phase was followed a a bunch of red cards for both sides as the match became a little scrappy. At the tail-end of the match, Sevilla made it nervy for Arsenal with a couple of good chances, but the Londerners eked out a 2-1 victory.
As per the Arsenal 2-1 Win Over Sevilla In Champions League, This win not only meant that Arsenal is now on six points in their group and on the top of it, but winning this match also saw them put aside a tricky away fixture.
Arsenal will now take on Sheffield United, West Ham, and Newcastle United in the Premier League in the coming weeks, before a rematch with Sevilla in the Champions League, this time in the Emirates Stadium.
