Argentine goalkeeper Emi Martinez is awaiting a punishment following his knocking down a reporter and his camera after Argentina’s defeat to Columbia in the CONMEBOL 2026 World Cup qualifier.
Argentine GK Emi Martinez Knocks Down Reporter, Awaits Punishment
The incident happened right after the match. As Martinez was greeting the players, reporter Jhonny Jackson went for a close-up shot with his camera. The Columbian crowd’s jeering might have pissed him off as the player knocked the camera down along with the reporter.
Jackson later told TyC Sports about the incident.
“They blew the final whistle and as a camera operator and steadycam operator I always go looking for reactions. I simply enter the field, I look for reactions. I see Dibu, I see him shaking hands with a substitute goalkeeper, I think, and I approach him. And out of nowhere Dibu knocked me down. It made me angry, very angry, because I am working, just like he was doing, him saving and me operating my camera, I wasn’t even playing soccer with him. But I didn’t say anything to him.”
Jackson then said to Martinez:
“I wanted to tell you to stay calm, brother. In life, at any time, everyone has lost a game, and suddenly that defeat meant a lot to you. But keep going, Dibu.”
It’s not the first time Argentinian players are getting into controversy. Right after winning Copa America 2024, Argentine players were caught chanting racist slogans against African Americans and transgenders, which led to worldwide criticism.
