Turkey met fearless Georgia in their inaugural Euro 2024 match and won it in a dominant fashion with three goals to one. The match could be said to be the most entertaining one in the current edition with two ‘goal of the tournament’ contentions coming from the Turks.
One was a stunning volley from the right-back, Mert Muldur, that went in like a bullet. The other one was a stunner, a beautiful curler from 25 yards by Real Madrid’s 19-year-old Arda Guler. Guler picked up the ball from the right side, cut inside, and hit with the left foot.

With this goal, Guler became the youngest debutant to score in the European Championship, dethroning the record of the GOAT Cristiano Ronaldo by a 14-day difference. While Guler was 19 years and 114 days old while scoring the goal, Ronaldo was 19 years and 128 days old.
The man-of-the-match performance from the youngster, though, wasn’t surprising. The ‘Turkish Messi’ has been spectacular whenever he got a chance to play for Real Madrid last season. His dazzlers on the pitch made Real Madrid offer him a six-year contract.
With a win each, both Turkey and Portugal have 3 points each in Group F, with Guler’s team edging with a better goal difference. In fact, Turkey’s next match is with Portugal on June 22, which is going to be their toughest test in the group.
