Anil Kumble Says Dhoni Could Play Beyond IPL 2024: Former Indian spinner and coach Anil Kumble thinks that MS Dhoni could have more longevity than a season in the IPL if he wishes to continue. Dhoni, who led the Chennai Super Kings into the IPL triumph last season, had decided not to retire, even though it would have been a perfect time to walk away from the sport.
But as per Anil Kumble, Dhoni could play even more even if he doesn’t untie his pads after this season.
Anil Kumble Says Dhoni Could Play Beyond IPL 2024
Anil Kumble revealed that MS Dhoni used to lift the ‘heavy’ when both shared the dressing room for the national team once upon a time.
“I never played with MS in the IPL. When I played with him on the Indian team, he was the first one to lift me up. I guess he was the strongest of the lot to lift a heavyweight. It was a fantastic moment for me.”
Kumble also mentioned Dhoni’s dedication to the game, and the player attended practice sessions even on optional days, just like Sachin Tendulkar.
“I remember, when I was coach and he was the captain, we were in Ranchi for a one-day game, for an optional practice session, and he didn’t need to come as Ranchi is his hometown. But he was there for the session. I said, ‘What are you doing? We still have a couple of days before the next game.’ He said, ‘No, I just want to be around.’ That’s him.”
“Sachin was the same. When I was with the Mumbai Indians, Sachin had played around 25 or 26 years of cricket. But on optional days, he’d be the first one to be on the bus.”
“These two guys, I don’t think can take a break.”
Kumble added that he ‘wouldn’t be surprised if MS continues to play for CSK’ beyond this season, as the player is so passionate about the game.
“I won’t be surprised if MS continues to play for CSK, because that’s his optional session. He’s so passionate, he wants to be there,” said Kumble.
