Anderson Reveals the Spat between Him And Gill: Test cricket is famous for cricketers having verbal spats during the game. It makes the game more ferocious and fun to watch. Some exchanges might be a bit friendly but others get out of the hands. One example was the feud between India’s Harbhajan Singh and Australia’s Andrew Symonds.
In 2008 when India faced Australia in a Test match, Indian players were furious due to a couple of umpire decisions that somehow helped Australia to set up a huge score of 463. Replying to that, India had a good 8th wicket partnership with the little man Sachin Tendulkar and spinner Harbhajan.
The spat started after Harbhajan patted Brett Lee, saying ‘Hard luck’’ after the Indian smashed Lee for a boundary. In the heat, Symonds responded, saying, “We don’t need it; do it to your own teammates.” Singh responded to that with a couple of words that weren’t audible on the camera. The next thing the spectators could see was Australian players rushing into the umpire, alleging Harbhajan for racially abusing Symonds by calling him a monkey. Harbhajan was later fined 50% of the match fee.
Anderson Reveals the Spat Between Him And Gill
While the spat between Harbhajan and Symonds went over the line, the exchanges between James Anderson and Shubman Gill were rather sarcastic.
Anderson told the Tailenders podcast that he asked Gill if he scores any runs outside India. In response, the Indian replied, saying it was time to retire. After a couple of balls, Anderson trapped Gill in front of the wicket.
“I said something to him like, ‘Do you get any runs outside India?’ and he said, ‘It’s time to retire. Then two balls later, I got him out,” said Anderson.
England lost the Test for an innings and 64 runs and submitted the series 1-4 to India.
