Amol Majumdar On Team India Preparations For WC: Amol Majumdar, who is the head coach of the Indian Womens Cricket Team, has opened up about the side’s preparations for the upcoming 2024 Womens T20 World Cup and claims that the team is ready physically and mentally.
Team India, captained by Harmanpreet Kaur, is in Group A of the competition alongside New Zealand, Asia Cup champions Sri Lanka, arch-rivals Pakistan, and the formidable Australia. India has never won this tournament, which first started in 2009 and has taken place eight times. Out of the eight T20 World Cups, the Aussies have won six, while England and the West Indies have won one each.
The 2024 edition will kick off on October 3 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), with the first match being played between Bangladesh and Scotland. The Women in Blue will open their tournament against New Zealand on October 4.
10 teams in the tournament are divided into two groups of five teams each. After playing each other once, the top two teams from a group will make it to the semi-finals.

Ahead of the competition, Indian head coach Majumdar opened up about the team’s mental preparations and how the players have had detailed interactions with sports psychologist Mugdha Bavare during camps at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.
Amol Majumdar told this during the pre-tournament press conference on September 24, saying,
“We had a camp where we did not touch skills. In that, we tried to introduce the psychologist. That is an area we would like to tap into. I was pretty happy with the results, what we had by the end of the camp. There were certain things that we tried to address. Mugdha Bavare was with us, and she’s been fantastic with the group, and she continues to be there.”
The Indian Womens Cricket Team’s mindset during big matches in World Cups has been called into question in the past. The team has a tendency to lose big knockout games. It must be noted that India has yet to win a World Cup at the senior level in women’s cricket, despite making it to the ODI WC final twice and the T20 WC final once in 2020.
Majumdar also discussed how during the training camp for the 2024 Womens T20 World Cup, the team practiced specific skills that were previously left untouched. In his words, the team has ticked a lot of boxes.
“We did a lot of fitness and fielding in the first camp; the entire 15 days were delegated to that aspect of the game. This was specifically done for those two areas where the skills weren’t touched,” the Indian coach asserted. “The next camp was just the skill camp, where we focused not just on the net session, but we also had almost 5 games in 10 days time. So if you ask for game time, we have ticked that box. And we played some very competitive games,” he added.
In the 2023 Women’s T20 World Cup, India made it to the semi-final only to lose to eventual champions Australia by five runs.
