Ambati Rayudu Wants RCB To Promote Local Players: Former Indian batsman Ambati Rayudu revealed the reason behind Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s continued failure to win an IPL trophy, despite being one of the most high-profile teams in the IPL.
RCB took on the Rajasthan Royals in the Eliminator match of the IPL in Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium. The Royals won the toss and decided to bowl first. A brilliant powerplay spell by Trent Boult, cagey middle-over bowling by Ravichandran Ashwin, and Avesh Khan’s wickets in the death overs restricted Bengaluru to 172 in 20 overs.
While batting, the Jaipur-based franchise looked in control. Despite losing wickets at crucial junctures, they chased the target down with relative ease, thus booking a date with Sunrisers Hyderabad in Qualifier 2.
As for RCB, they have failed to win the IPL once again, this being their ninth playoff qualification in 17 seasons.
RCB has had a struggle with finding and keeping Indian players on their side, especially batters. While Virat Kohli has scored over 8000 runs for the franchise, the most in team and IPL history, the second-highest Indian batter with the most runs for RCB is Dinesh Karthik with 937 runs.
Ambati Rayudu Wants RCB To Promote Local Players
Ambati Rayudu, who has the record for the joint-most IPL wins with six, recently advised RCB as to how they can win titles in the future, focusing on Indian players.
“Bengaluru will have to trust the Indian players and local coaches. You can’t ignore the Indian talent in the Indian Premier League. CSK, MI, and KKR have understood the importance of Indian players, and that’s why they are among the top-performing units,” Rayudu told Star Sports.
With the next IPL season likely to be preceded by a mega auction, this was RCB’s last chance to win a title with this core of players.
