Ambati Rayudu Compares Tristan Stubbs To ABD: Six-time IPL champion Ambati Rayudu has come out to praise the Delhi Capitals’ Tristan Stubbs, claiming he sees a little bit of AB de Villiers in the South African.
Stubbs was bought by the Capitals ahead of the 2024 season and has been a revelation for the franchise. He has been an explosive middle-order batter who has scored 378 runs at a strike rate of 190 in 14 matches.
While DC is now out of IPL 2024 barring a miracle, Stubbs has been one of the highlights for the team this season. The South African played a lightning-quick 57-run inning in 25 balls against the Lucknow Super Giants in Delhi’s most recent game and led his team to a win.

Ambati Rayudu, who is an IPL player and is now a commentator, recently compared Stubbs to yet another South African who was an absolute legend of the league back in his time, AB de Villiers.
Arguably the greatest South African batter of all time, being compared to de Villiers is big praise for any batter, especially an up-and-coming South African.
“Tristan Stubbs is a complete performer. He bowled a wonderful over, and this season he’s countered every ball from the shorter ones to the fuller ones. He’s great against slower ones as well. I think he’s really talented. He is one of those South Africans who resembles AB de Villiers. He has a long way to go, in my opinion. However, he appears to be as good as AB de Villiers,” Ambati Rayudu told Star Sports.
The 23-year-old batter has been the best death-over batter in IPL 2024. In the last five overs of the inning, Stubbs has scored 223 runs without being dismissed and has a strike rate of 297 in those overs.
Tristan Stubbs will represent South Africa in the upcoming 2024 T20 World Cup, where he is expected to play a big role. His team will be in Group D of the competition along with Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, the Netherlands, and Nepal.
As for Delhi Capital, they have played all their matches in the IPL 2024 league stage. They are currently fifth on the table with 14 points and a net run rate of -0.337. They would need the fourth-placed Sunrisers Hyderabad to lose both their remaining games by massive margins to make it to the playoffs.
