All players bought by CSK in IPL Auction 2024: Defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) had an impressive IPL 2024 auction in Dubai last Tuesday.
Even though CSK won the IPL 2024 title, they had a few holes to fill. Ben Stokes, their big-budget signing in the IPL 2023 auction but who played only 2 games due to injury, has pulled out of the IPL 2024 season and was then released by CSK. Ambati Rayudu, CSK’s versatile pillar in the middle order, retired after last season.
CSK made a very impressive signing in Daryl Mitchell, and his price of INR 14 crore doesn’t seem outrageous given his brilliant form in the World Cup and across formats since last year and his all-round abilities. Mitchell is very likely to start in CSK’s XI. CSK also made a steal in Rachin Ravindra for only INR 1.8 crore. Rachin was New Zealand’s top run-getter in the World Cup and is well-known for his batting against spinners.
CSK were also on the lookout for multiple pacers after they released Dwaine Pretorius, Akash Singh, Kyle Jamieson, and Sisanda Magala. CSK needed backup seamers for Matheesha Pathirana, Deepak Chahar, and Mukesh Chowdhary, all three of whom are prone to injuries.
To address this, CSK roped in two experienced pacers: Shardul Thakur and Mustafizur Rahman. The variations filled bowling styles of both would suit the Chepauk surface. Shardul was part of CSK’s title-winning side in 2018 and 2021.
CSK also purchased Uttar Pradesh’s Sameer Rizvi, who recently made a huge noise in the UP T20 league and is known as the right-handed Suresh Raina in the UP circuit. He was bought for a huge price of INR 8.4 crore.

The IPL 2024 season is almost certain to be the last IPL season for the CSK captain, MS Dhoni, who will be close to the age of 43 by the time next season concludes.
