All Gujarat Titans Retentions For IPL 2025: Former IPL champions Gujarat Titans have retained five players ahead of the IPL 2024 mega auction, The team now has a fine combination of superstars and uncapped players.
After two successful seasons, GT fell off a cliff in 2024. Despite that, they have attempted to maintain the team’s core by retaining five players. This means that they have only one Right to Match (RTM) card left, which they can use on a certain Indian pacer who is the franchise’s highest wicket-taker.
With five players in the team, two of which are uncapped, the Titans have spent Rs. 51 crore in retentions, leaving 69 crores in the purse for the auction. Here are all Gujarat Titans’ retentions for IPL 2025.
All Gujarat Titans Retentions For IPL 2025
1) Rashid Khan – 18 Crore
Before retentions for IPL 2025 were finalized, most news outlets reported that Rashid Khan was set to leave the Mumbai Indians. So it came as a surprise when the Afghan superstar was not only retained by the Gujarat Titans but was first on the list.
Despite having a poor season with the ball in 2024 (by his own standards), Rashid is still among the best limited-overs bowlers in the world. He is also the highest wicket-taker in the franchise’s history with 56 scalps in 45 games. And even in games where he does not take wickets, batters are cautious against him, leading to him having a low economy. With all that, Rashid is also a fine finishing batter.
So not only has the GT shown a lot of faith in Rashid Khan, but they have now given him everything he asked for and would be expecting a wonderful season from the spin-maestro.
2) Shubman Gill – 16.5 Crore
After Hardik Pandya left for the Mumbai Indians after two successful years as the Gujarat Titans captain, the franchise picked star batter Shubman Gill as their new skipper.
And while Gill has been arguably the best player in the franchise’s short history, his first full season as captain did not go too well as the Titans finished eighth. Gill himself had an okay season, scoring 236 runs with an average of 38.73. This was a far cry from his 2023 season, where he had one of the best seasons a batter ever had in the IPL, scoring 890 runs in 17 games with an average of 59.33 and a strike rate of 157.80.
With Shubman Gill being one of the most high-profile batters in Indian cricket, him being the franchise’s highest-run scorer, and their captain, GT understandably have shown a lot of faith in the 25-year-old.
3) Sai Sudharsan – 8.5 Crore
Sai Sudharsan is one of the most promising young batters in India who is constantly knocking on the door of the national team. If he went into the auction, he would have earned big bucks. So it was wise of the Gujarat Titans to retain him.
Sudharsan has had two solid seasons in the IPL. In 2023, he played only eight matches but scored 326 runs with an average of over 51. Then, in 2024, he was the team’s highest run scorer with 527 in 12 games. Even in domestic cricket, he has been fabulous. In his last two matches, he scored a double-century for Tamil Nadu in the Ranji Trophy before scoring a ton 100 for India A against Australia A.
Sai Sudfharsan, along with Shubman Gill, have the potential to become the best opening duo in IPL 2025. And getting that just from retentions is a massive win for the Titans.
4) Rahul Tewatia – 4 Crore (Uncapped)
Getting an all-rounder who wins his team about 2-3 matches a season is worth well over 10 crores. So getting to retain one such player in Rahul Tewatia for just 4 crore is a steal for the Gujarat Titans.
Tewatia’s stats throughout the season do not look too impressive on paper. In 2024, he scored only 188 runs at an average of just over 26. But it is his ability to win his side games from unlikely situations while chasing is what makes him a valuable commodity.
And while the Titans do not allow him to bowl a lot, Rahul Tewatia in domestic cricket is predominantly a leg-spinner.
5) Shahrukh Khan – 4 Crore (Uncapped)
Shahrukh Khan is still to have his breakout season in the IPL. The Tamil Nadu all-rounder might be one of the best domestic T20 players in the country, but he has yet to show that in the IPL.
He was once bought by the Punjab Kings for 9 crores. Even the Gujarat Titans got him for 7.4 crores in 2024. And while he did not have a good season, scoring only 127 runs in seven games, Khan showed little glimpses of the explosive finisher he can be.
So with the Titans putting their faith in him once again, it is high time for the 29-year-old to show the world what he can do.
Big Players Not Retained
Gujarat Titans have had to let go of a lot of big names, most of them either because of their age or their lack of form. The biggest name they released was Mohammed Shami. Despite missing the 2024 season, Shami has been an absolute beast in the Titans’ jersey, and his absence played a big role in the side’s failure of a season in 2024.
Other big names missing from the Gujarat Titans retention list are South African batter David Miller, veteran pacer Mohit Sharma, and Afghan spinner Noor Ahmad.
