Akash Chopra Says Janat said this is Jahannam: India and Afghanistan showcased a spectacular showdown in Bengaluru, and the decider came in the second super over when Ravi Bishnoi tied the Afghan batters from climbing down quite a fragile target of 11 runs. The thriller that gave everyone chills had some magisterial moments, and one of them was from the Rohit Sharma and Rinku Singh duo, who squashed up Karim Janat’s last over by smashing 36 runs, a record that was held by Yuvraj Singh and Kieron Pollard before.
Akash Chopra Says Janat said this is Jahannam
The performance woke up the pun-man in Akash Chopra, who made use of alliteration to go hilarious. Commenting on Janat’s last over-upset, Mr. Chopra said that Janat (heaven) might have felt that this was Jahannam (hell).
“Rohit Sharma scored a century, the fifth of his career and his highest individual score. Rinku Singh also scored an unbeaten 69. 36 runs were scored in Karim Janat’s final over. Five sixes – Janat said this is Jahannam as he was hit so much, so what else was left?” Chopra said.
Before Rohit took over the match, India was in a precarious position, losing four wickets at 22.
“22/4 means Fareed had blown us away. Two first-ball ducks – Virat Kohli and Sanju Samson, Yashasvi (Jaiswal) scored four runs, Shivam Dube got out for one, and India were stuck. The match went differently from there”, he added.
