Adam Gilchrist Slams Hardik Pandya For Fitness: Former Australian wicketkeeper Adam Gilchrist has slammed Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya, claiming that the all-rounder lacks fitness and fluency in his bowling.
MI took on arch-rivals Chennai Super Kings in their most recent match and despite the contest being played in Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium, MI lost the match by 20 runs.
Hardik Pandya himself had what could be called a net-negative match. While bowling, he ended with the figures of 2/43 in three overs. This included him conceding 20 runs in the last four balls of the 20th over to MS Dhoni.
Then, when he came on to bat at a crucial juncture of the 207-run chase, he was dismissed for just 2-off-6 balls.

Ever since he was brought back to Mumbai Indians and made the team captain replacing five-time IPL-winning skipper Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya has not had the best time in the league. In six matches this year, he has scored 131 runs with an average of 30. While bowling, his economy has been 12 RPO.
Under his captaincy, MI has lost four matches in six and is currently eighth on the table.
Adam Gilchrist has now questioned Hardik’s fitness going into this tournament. Adam specifically pointed out his performance against Chennai Super Kings and used the term “proppy” to describe him, which is Australian slang for a sportsperson who lacks fluency or fitness.

Speaking to Cricbuzz following the MI-CSK match, Gilchrist had this to say about Pandya’s performance –
“The only positive aspect of Hardik Pandya’s bowling was his willingness to take on the challenge. As captain, he wanted to try it but did not look fully confident or fluent in his bowling or poppy.”
Despite fans and critics criticizing Hardik Pandya for his performances this season, the 30-year-old has the backing of the management. Most recently, MI batting coach Kieron Pollard came out in his defense.
Mumbai Indians will face Punjab Kings in their next match on April 18 in the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur.
