Former Australian wicketkeeper-batter Adam Gilchrist has made a prediction regarding the winner of the upcoming 2024 Border-Gavaskar Trophy between India and Australia.
The four-match Test series between Australia and India, known as the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, is one of the biggest Test cricket series in the world, right behind The Ashes. Every two years, the two biggest cricketing nations in the world collide in one of the most looked-forward-to bilateral series in world cricket.
It takes place in the Australian summer once, at which time it is winter in India. Then, a couple of years later, it takes place in India in the winter. The last time this series was played Down Under was in 2020/21, after which it was played in India in 2022/23.

The Men in Blue have been winning this series on the last four occasions. Usually, the home side wins it. This is what happened in 2016-17 when India won the home series 2-1. But then, the Indian Cricket Team under Virat Kohli defeated Australia in a Test series in Australia for the first time in history in 2018/19. That team of the Baggy Greens was a depleted one, as star-batters Steve Smith and David Warner were banned from cricket for a year back then.
Due to COVID restrictions, the series was played in Australia in 2020-21 as well. This time, India lost the first Test after being all-out for 36 in the third inning. This, coupled with regular injuries and several senior players not being available, meant that most people predicted a washout. Not only did India avoid a washout, but they also brought the series level before the final match at Gabba, a stadium where Australia had not lost a Test in over 32 years.
But a depleted India team won the famous match, thus winning the series for the third time in a row with a 2-1 scoreline. The 2022-23 series was won by India at home, making it four-in-a-row.
Adam Gilchrist Predicts Australia Vs India Winner
Adam Gilchrist, who was a nightmare for the opposition bowlers across all formats back in his day, recently discussed the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024. Which will be played in Australia. In a recent interview with the Times of India, the Aussie praised the Indian bowling attack, calling both teams a dominant force at home but praising India’s ability to win matches on foreign soil.
“It is going to be another tough series for both teams. The onus is on Australia to prove they are the dominant force at home. India knows how to go away and win overseas. Their fast bowling lineup at the moment is up there, on a par with most around the world. They are going to enjoy the conditions here. Besides, they have a terrifically talented batting line-up. It is going to be very, very even,” he said.
The 52-year-old then went on to predict that the Australian Cricket Team would win the series but suggested that it would be a close one.
“Naturally, I am going to say Australia; I hope they get there. But it is too close to call. It will be a close tussle.”
The Australia vs India Test series will commence on November 22, with the first Test being played at the Perth (Optus) Stadium. The last Test will commence on Boxing Day (December 26) and will be played at the MCG in Melbourne.
