Aaron Finch Supports Kohli for the Slow Innings: Though Royal Challengers Bengaluru had a breather yesterday, defeating the in-form Sunrisers Hyderabad for 35 runs, their star batter Virat Kohli was subjected to Twitter scrutiny after the match. The orange cap holder registered a slow fifty (51 from 43 balls) against the orange team, which invited criticism from the fans and pundits alike.
Former cricketer Aakash Chopra had called out Kohli for being sluggish with the bat.
“Virat Kohli was very, very aggressive in the powerplay but slowed down after that. He probably scored only 19 runs off the last 25 balls he faced. He got out, probably in the 14th or 15th over, but his last boundary came off the third ball of the sixth over. Not even a single boundary came from his bat in the eight-odd overs after the powerplay,” said Chopra.

Amidst the criticism, Aaron Finch gave a constructive reason why the best player in the world slowed down in the match. According to Finch, Kohli was supporting the fired-up Rajat Patidar, who later went on to score a fifty from just 20 deliveries.
“Patidar’s blistering innings impacted Kohli’s approach. Kohli started aggressively but then lowered the pace after the powerplay to keep Patidar on strike. With Patidar hitting boundaries freely, Kohli likely focused on rotating the strike rather than attacking himself,” he said.
Finch called Kohli’s decision strategic.
“Though his strike rate declined, Kohli made the strategic decision to keep Patidar on strike. Rajat’s aggressive approach that powered score. By maintaining the momentum despite his individual slowdown, Kohli got his partner firing, a pivotal move for the team’s success,” Finch added.
