Aakash Chopra Slams SRH for Cummins Captaincy: Pat Cummins became the second-most expensive player in the 2024 IPL auction when Sunrisers Hyderabad landed him for 20.5 crores. Though Cummins led Australia to win the 2023 ODI World Cup, the deal raised many eyebrows. As SRH proclaimed Cummins to lead them in the current season by removing South Africa’s Aiden Markram from the captaincy, many are coming in with criticism, and a major one is from Aakash Sharma.
Aakash Chopra Slams SRH for Cummins Captaincy
According to Chopra, the World Cup winner lacks T20 numbers.
“You have made Pat Cummins the captain, but have you seen his recent IPL numbers? Check attentively; he concedes a lot of runs and doesn’t score that many runs with the bat. Only four overseas players play. He neither bowls in the powerplay nor at the death,” Chopra said on his YouTube.
Chopra believes spending over 25 percent of SRH’s resources on someone who didn’t even have a guaranteed place in the IPL before is not a wise decision.
“If he is not going to do all those jobs, you are spending 25 percent of your overseas resources on a player whose place in the XI was not 100 percent guaranteed in the IPL. That is why Pat Cummins is not the captain of the team where 11 Australians play, although he has won the World Cup but not the T20,”
Chopra also pointed out Aiden Markram’s recent success in the SA20. The South African led SunRisers Eastern Cape to the trophy twice in the last two seasons.
“There is a player named Aiden Markram who benefited the SunRisers franchise a lot. He made the SunRisers Eastern Cape the champions for two successive years in the SA20 league. However, he has been removed from the captaincy here. He captained one year in total where I felt there was a lot of confusion,” Chopra said.
It has to be waited and seen if Cummins can bring his ODI WC magic into the most popular franchise league in the world.
