Aakash Chopra On Yashasvi Jaiswal Pacer Issues: Former Indian batter Aakash Chopra has raised concerns with Indian Cricket Team opener Yashasvi Jaiswal’s struggles against left-arm pace bowling, claiming that it is not a format-specific issue, but one we have been seeing since the IPL.
The ongoing five-match Australia vs India 2024/25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy is currently three matches deep. India won the first match by 295 runs, while Australia made a strong comeback in this series to win the second Test by 10 runs. In the third match, the Aussies were ahead for the most part, but the rains resulted in it ending in a draw.
Jaiswal has not had the best BGT so far. In the three matches so far, he has scored 193 runs. 161 runs of those came in a single inning, apart from which he has failed to make big runs in this series. In the first Test, he scored a duck and a 161; in the second, he scored a duck and a 24; while in the third match, he put up scores of 4 and 4*.

Out of Yashasvi’s five dismissals in this series, three have come against Mitchell Starc, and it is the three times he has gotten out in the very first over of the inning.
In one of the most memorable incidents in this series, during the inning Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 161, at one point, he told Starc that his ball was coming on to him too slow, an incident that has been talked about, mocked, and criticised, and praised a lot.
Ahead of the fourth Test of the series, Aakash Chopra highlighted Jaiswal’s issues against left-arm pacers in a video on his YouTube channel. In the video, he had this to say about Yashasvi:

“The truth is that Yashasvi Jaiswal is having problems against left-arm pace, and this problem has not started now. It’s been happening regularly. This was happening in the IPL as well, which means it is not a format-specific problem. It is not a Mitchell Starc problem.“
Chopra then went on to say that Mitchell Starc’s return to form in this series has only compounded the Indian youngster’s problems.
“His numbers against left-arm pace are not that good, and that is getting exploited because, for some strange reason, Mitchell Starc is back to his best. We felt there was a slight slide in his career, but he has again started to bowl with the same rhythm,” he stated.
The fourth India vs Australia Test will be played on December 26 in the Melbourne Cricket Stadium, a Boxing Day Test.
With the series standing at 1-1 after three Tests, the last two Tests of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, to be played in Melbourne and Sydney, respectively, are not only crucial for the result of this series but also for the equation for the 2025 World Test Championship final, to be played in England in June of next year.
