Aakash Chopra On Arshdeep Singh WC Selection: Former Indian cricketer and now broadcaster Aakash Chopra commented on pacer Arshdeep Singh’s selection into India’s 15-man squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup, as he feels that the 25-year-old has not been bowling too well as of late.
Arshdeep was picked as one of three pacers in India’s announced squad for the upcoming World Cup, which will commence on June 2. He will join Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj to form India’s pace trio.
The left-arm pacer has been playing for the Punjab Kings in the ongoing 2024 IPL. In the nine matches he has played, the Punjab-based player has taken 12 wickets at an average of 25.17 and an economy of 9.64.
He is the joint-second-highest wicket-taker in PBKS along with Sam Curran and is 11th in the race to the Purple Cap.
The Punjab Kings will take on the Chennai Super Kings in their next match on May 1 in Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium.

Aakash Chopra recently uploaded a preview of this match on his YouTube channel, where he highlighted Arshdeep Singh as a player to watch. In the video, Chopra suggested that Singh has not bowled very well this season and questioned his performance in PBKS’ most recent match against the Kolkata Knight Riders while commenting on his selection into the World Cup squad, saying,
“Since Arshdeep Singh has been selected now, let’s look towards Arsh. To be very honest, he is not bowling that well. He was bowling back-of-the-hand slower ones against Sunil Narine. I was asking why he was doing that. He was bowling wides.”
The former Test player then pleaded with Arshdeep to bowl well against CSK.
“The confidence is not coming, which should come, because Arshdeep is very close to my heart. Please Arsh, you need to bowl well in this match, pitch the ball full, and bring it in. Ruturaj (Gaikwad) has slight difficulties against left-armers, so please do the needful. Bowl well at the death also. You might get Mahi (MS Dhoni) in front of you; that could be a good contest,” Aakash added.
Punjab Kings chased down the biggest target in T20 history of 262 in their last match against KKR. With that victory, they climbed to eighth in the points table with six points in nine matches. From this point, every match is a must-win if they are to make it to the playoffs.
