Aakash Chopra Critisices England Batting In 1st ODI: Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra has thrashed the England Cricket Team for their batting collapse in the first of three ODIs against India, saying that the Three Lions are “meowing like a cat.”
The first India vs England ODI was played at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur. With the surface looking batting-friendly, England, after winning the toss, decided to bat first.
At the beginning of the inning, the English openers dominated Indian bowling. Phil Salt and Ben Duckett seemed adamant about giving their team a perfect launch to score some big runs. By the time Salt was run out, England was 75/1 in the ninth over. But from this point, the top order collapsed.
In the very next over, Duckett was dismissed by Harshit Rana off an incredible catch by Yashasvi Jaiswal. Harry Brook then continued his mediocre form on this tour and got out for a duck before the end of the 10th over as the score was now 77/3.

Joe Root didn’t survive for too long as well, scoring only 19 runs. But following Root’s dismissal, team captain Jos Buttler and Jacob Bethell then batted together to ensure that the team would at least cross the 200-run mark. Buttler even scored a 50 before getting out to Axar Patel.
Soon after the skipper’s dismissal, Liam Livingstone got out while trying to hit the ball out of the park. From this point on, Bethell took charge of the inning and batted with the tail, scoring a 50 and taking the team past 200. By the time the England Cricket Team was all out, they had scored 248 runs in 47.4 overs.
From looking like making big runs to falling short of the par score on this pitch, England did not have a good outing in that match, seeing how India chased the target down with more than 10 overs to spare.
A poor batting performance only sheds light on how bad this tour has been for England so far, as they also lost the T20I series 4-1.

Aakash Chopra has now chimed in on the India vs England match in a video on his YouTube channel. In the video, he discussed how, despite a batting order filled with stars, England failed to deliver with the bat against India in the 1st ODI.
“You opted to bat first after winning the toss, and you are unable to score runs. Jos Buttler, of course, scored runs. Jacob Bethell scored runs, which is good news for RCB, but Brook is still unable to see the ball. Harshit Rana concedes 26 runs in an over, but he comes back and bowls very strongly. However, England’s batting is a problem. They do make up for it in bowling, although I felt they were playing with a pacer short. The team is ordinary. They have three lions on their jerseys, but they are meowing like a cat,” he said.
India’s win in this game was crucial due to the importance of this series. Taking a lead in this series is a step towards winning it, and winning it is key because of its close proximity to the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, which will start a week after the final match of the series.
