Seth Rollins Slams Undisputed WWE Championship: WWE Superstar Seth “Freakin” Rollins was recently critical of Roman Reigns’ historic 1300+ days title reign. More specifically, how he was the only world champion in the company for over a year.
For the past five years, Roman has been the biggest star on the WWE roster. Since 2020, he has not only been the biggest thing in wrestling since prime John Cena but has also been the most popular star in the business. From being derided by a major portion of the fanbase for being an uninspired babyface to becoming the face of the company as the Tribal Chief.

Roman first won the Universal Championship at Payback 2020. He held the title for well over a year, defeating Daniel Bryan and Edge in the main event of WrestleMania 37. Then, in the main event of Night Two of WrestleMania 38 in 2022, in the second year of his championship, The Head of The Table took on WWE Champion Brock Lesnar in a belt unification match and won.
From that point on, there was only one men’s world champion in the WWE for over a year. At WrestleMania 39, Reigns defeated Cody Rhodes in the Night Two main event. Later that year, he reached 1000 days in his title reign.
But for a year between WrestleMania 38 and 39, and then a couple of months after 39, there was only one world champion. This was to the detriment of names and stars that got hot during this time but were not big enough to defeat Roman Reigns for the title. The decision to have only one world title for over a year might have resulted in some people who deserved to be world champions at that time not becoming one.
One of these names was Seth Rollins, whose last world title reign in WWE was with the Universal Championship in 2019. When WWE decided to make another world title in 2023, the World Heavyweight Championship, Seth became the first holder of this belt at Night of Champions, holding the belt till WrestleMania 40.
The Monday Night Messiah has now chimed in about his thoughts on unifying the belts in 2022. On a recent appearance on INSIGHT with Chris Van Vliet, Rollins stated that WWE having just one world title ended up affecting the entire roster in a bad way, saying,
“We were in such a garbage place when they unified the titles. It was like there was such a low ceiling for everybody. We didn’t have the two titles; we didn’t have a way of getting the titles separated. It was like we could not get that done. There were just so many—every suggestion just had a wall in front of it. It just couldn’t get done. It was hurting the rest of the roster to not have anything to go for.”
Rollins is currently in a big-time feud with CM Punk. The two wrestled in the main event of the debut episode of RAW on Netflix with Punk picking up the win.
