Pakistan Refuses to Move Champions Trophy Matches: The Pakistani government has asked the PCB not to move any games of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 outside Pakistan. The response comes after the ICC’s letter to the board to inform India’s demand to conduct the tournament in the hybrid mode, citing security concerns.
Earlier, the news had come out that the ICC asked Pakistan to move India’s matches to the UAE and to keep the final fixture in Dubai. Failing that, as the reports arrived, Pakistan was told that the entire tournament would shift to South Africa.
“Unless the PCB decides to pull out of hosting the Champions Trophy, the current plan is to hold India’s matches in UAE and the final in Dubai,” a source told PTI on Monday.
“The ICC has told the PCB that if it decides to go ahead with the hosting of the mega event on a Hybrid Model it would get its full hosting fees and majority of the matches,” the source said.
Pakistan Refuses to Move Champions Trophy Matches Outside
But the Pakistan Cricket Board stated that they are sticking with their earlier stand to not move any matches outside the country.
“We have been told by our government not to move any game out of Pakistan, and that will be our stand when the time comes. Right now, the ICC has just informed us about India’s decision. We have the hosting rights for the Champions Trophy so there is no way we can move the games outside Pakistan,” said a PCB official on condition of anonymity.
The PCB official also revealed that the board has sent a letter back to the ICC asking for clarifications for ‘BCCI’s decision not to travel to Pakistan for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025’.
“We have responded to last week’s ICC letter, seeking clarifications for the BCCI’s decision not to travel to Pakistan for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. In reply, we have sent them a questionnaire asking them the reasons for the BCCI’s decision. We are keen to know that. So right now, there is no talk of moving games,” he said.
The Champions Trophy will commence on February 19, with eight teams competing in the tournament. The final game will be played on March 19.
