5 Costliest Players In IPL 2024 Auction: It was a record-breaking day at Dubai’s Coca-Cola Arena as the Auction for the 2024 season of the Indian Premier League took place on December 19. On a day when records were broken, some players emerged as big winners in the money market.
5 Costliest Players In IPL 2024 Auction: IPL 2023-24
Today, we will look back at 5 of the costliest players in the IPL 2024 Auction, who had earned the most money, and which teams went in with the highest bids. Here are the 5 costliest players in IPL 2024 auction –
1) Mitchell Starc – Rs. 24.75 Crore
Before this year’s auction, the record for the highest-ever bid in the IPL Auction was set last year when English all-rounder Sam Curran was bought by the Punjab Kings (PBKS) for Rs. 18.5 Crore. That record has now been absolutely shattered, as Australian ace-pacer Mitchell Starc went for a staggering Rs. 24.75 Crore and will play for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
As per the 5 Costliest Players In IPL 2024 Auction, Mitchell Starc needs no introduction. One of the best bowlers in the world, the left-arm quick has an uncanny combination of ball movement and accuracy. In 2023, he has not played any T20s, but in ODIs, he has taken 25 wickets in 14 matches, most of which were played on the flutter pitches of the World Cup played in India.
The only issue with him being bought for such a high price is his recent record in IPL or lack of it. It has been 8 years since Mitchell Starc has played in the IPL. In order to 5 Costliest Players In IPL 2024 Auction, He has been away from the league due to several injuries and personal reasons. As the years have grown, he has also become injury-prone and has thus given up playing in the IPL to focus on his national duties.

2) Pat Cummins – Rs. 20.5 Crore
The man who first broke Sam Curran’s IPL auction record and the first to break the Rs 20 Crore barrier, Australian captain Sam Curran is reaping the rewards of a very successful year as the captain of the national team, where he won the World Test Championship Final and the Cricket World Cup 2023.
Unlike Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins has been playing in the IPL for the past few years, although he was not part of the 2023 season. In T20s, Pat is a solid bowler and an effective no.8 batter. A part of the Kolkata Knight Riders since 2020, he has taken 28 wickets in 26 appearances for the franchise. In order to 5 Costliest Players In IPL 2024 Auction, He scored the joint second-fastest IPL 50 as he reached the mark in 14 balls against Mumbai Indians in 2022.
Now bought by the Sunrisers Hyderabad for over 20 Crore, speculations about him becoming the franchise’s new captain in place of Aiden Markram have emerged. Even if that is not the case, his inclusion in the team will surely mix up SRH’s playing 11 from last season.

3) Daryl Mitchell – Rs. 14 Crore
Daryl Mitchell has seen a massive rise in his stock in the past few years. The New Zealand all-rounder has been an integral part of his national team, especially in the ICC tournaments in the past 2-3 years. In the 2023 ODI World Cup, he was the 5th highest run-getter with 552 runs in 10 matches. This included an impressive 134 in the semi-final against India which nearly brought his team home.
As per 5 Costliest Players In IPL 2024 Auction, Also a handy medium-pace bowler, Mitchell has also taken nine wickets in nine innings in T20Is this season. Maybe it is his all-round abilities that resulted in Chennai Super Kings breaking the bank for the 32-year-old.
Despite his high stock in world cricket, Mitchell is yet to leave his mark on IPL. His first exposure to the league was with the Rajasthan Royals, who bought the all-rounder in 2022 for his base price of R. 75 Lakhs. He played only two matches in a season that saw the Royals reach the finals.

4) Harshal Patel – Rs. 11.75 Crore
The only Indian on the list, Harshal Patel will be moving on from his successful stint with the Royal Challengers Bangalore as the national team bowler will be taking his talents up North to the Punjab Kings.
The 2021 season Purple Cap winner reinvented himself in the RCB system, making his way to the national team after years and becoming a death bowling specialist. He will now form a formidable Indian bowling partnership with Arshdeep Singh in Punjab. Patel also became by far the most expensive Indian in the IPL 2024 Auction.
As per the 5 Costliest Players In IPL 2024 Auction, In the past three seasons for RCB, Harshal Patel took a whopping 65 wickets in just 43 matches. He is also part of a very elite group of 20 bowlers who have taken 100 wickets in IPL.

5) Alzarri Joseph – Rs.11.5 Crore
The lanky West Indian pacer has been one of the most impressive bowlers in World Cricket for the last couple of years. The 6-foot-4 Antiguan pacer has a deadly pace and lethal bounce and promises to be the answer to RCB’s bowling woes, despite their bowling attack looking lacklustre even after the auction.
In order to 5 Costliest Players In IPL 2024 Auction, Across the last two years, Joseph has taken 32 wickets in 19 T20I matches for West Indies with an average hovering around 20. In the IPL, he impressed for the Gujarat Giants in the last two years with his bounce, but also conceded a lot of runs.
While Joseph deserved a high price in the IPL 2024 auction, it looks like he wasn’t the right fit for RCB due to a couple of reasons. First, their home ground at Chinnaswamy Stadium does not provide much help for the bowlers, not ideal for bowlers who otherwise go for a lot of runs. And second, RCB were looking for someone to lead their bowling attack, and an inexperienced Joseph might not be the answer.
