3 Reasons SRH Lost To GT IPL 2025: The Gujarat Titans defeated the Sunrisers Hyderabad by 38 runs after scoring 224 runs in Match 51 of the Indian Premier League 2025. The match was played on Friday, April 03, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
The Sunrisers Hyderabad are now all but out of contention for the playoffs in IPL 2025. So far, this team has won only three matches this season, defeating RR, PBKS, and CSK. They have also lost matches against LSG, DC, KKR, GT, MI twice, and now GT again. With three wins, six points, and a horrid net run rate in 10 matches, the Sunrisers are ninth on the points table.
Meanwhile, the Gujarat Titans are pushing for a table-top finish. They did get off to a poor start to the season, losing to PBKS in their season opener. But then, GT won four in a row, defeating MI, RCB, SRH, and RR. This was followed by a loss to LSG and wins against DC and KKR. In their last game before this one, Gujarat were humbled by RR in historic fashion. But after tonight’s win, the Titans now have seven wins, 14 points, and a decent net run rate, putting them second on the points table.
Today, we will look back at three reasons why SRH, who finished as runners-up in IPL 2024, lost this game away from home.
3 Reasons SRH Lost To GT IPL 2025
1) GT Pace Makes A Comeback
The Gujarat Titans’ pace attack had a horrid outing the last time their team took to the field. When GT took on RR mere days ago, the bowling unit had to defend a total of 210. Instead, they got that target chased down in record time, with 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi scoring a century. The Royals’ batting attack especially targeted the Titans’ pacers on that day, with Ishant Sharma and Prasidh Krishna having their worst match of the season.
However, while defending a target of 225, the GT pace attack had a much better day. It would not be wrong to claim that they dominated the Sunrisers’ batting. The quartet of Mohammad Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Ishant Sharma, and Gerald Coetzee bowled 15.2 overs, conceded just 113 runs, and took six wickets.
Coetzee, who made his debut for GT tonight, bowled four overs with the figures 1/36, taking the wicket of Ishan Kishan. Ishant Sharma, before getting injured while bowling his fourth, had conceded 35 runs and dismissed the dangerous Abhishek Sharma. Meanwhile, Siraj conceded 33 runs in four overs and took two wickets, trapping Aniket Verma and Kamindu Mendis.
But the star of the show was Prasidh Krishna, whose figures after a four-over spell read 2/19. Not only did he bowl at an economy of 4.75, but he also dismissed the dangerous duo of Travis Head and Heinrich Klaasen.

2) No Support For Abhishek Sharma
Abhishek Sharma continuously proves himself to be the best batter of the SRH roster and one of the best T20 batters in the world. However, he did not get much support from his fellow Sunrisers today. Abhishek scored 74 runs in 41 deliveries today, kept Hyderabad in the chase for a long time before getting out, and became his team’s highest run scorer of the season.
The Indian top-order batter opened the innings with his regular partner in crime, Travis Head. The two made 49 runs together in 4.3 overs before Head’s wicket fell. No. 3 batter Ishan Kishan did not stand much at the crease, scoring 13 off 17. Sharma then had a decent partnership with Heinrich Klaasen, who scored 23 runs in 18 balls. But this time, it was Abhishek Sharma who got out. By the time he was dismissed, the team score was 139/3 in 15 overs.
While the 24-year-old anchored the SRH innings for 15 overs, his departure meant that this chase was not going to be a successful one. Klassen got out soon enough. And while Nitish Kumar Reddy and captain Pat Cummins scored some quick runs at the death, it was not enough, as the away team lost this match by 38 runs in this Gujarat Titans vs Sunrisers Hyderabad match.

1) Top Order Trio Does It Again
The Gujarat Titans’ top order is the best in IPL 2025. The top three batters of this team are three of the four highest run scorers this season. The opening pair of Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill has consistently given this team a great start. Tonight was no different, as the first wicket partnership was worth 87 runs within seven overs.
Sai and Gill started the GT off in spectacular fashion. There were a total of 15 boundaries hit by the two in just 6.5 overs before Sudharsan, who is the current Orange Cap holder with 504 runs in 10 matches, got out for 43 off 23. He scored these runs with a strike rate of 208.70 without playing many risky shots.
This brought in Jos Buttler, who too has been in some fine form as of late and currently stands at No. 3 in the Orange Cap list. He, along with Captain Gill, batted together for the next six overs and scored 62 runs, keeping the run rate high in the middle overs.
While Gill was run out in controversial fashion at the end of the 13th over for 76 off 38, Buttler took the team right into the death overs, where he scored quick runs alongside Washington Sundar. Jos scored 64 in 37. This means that the top three GT batters scored a combined 158 runs and set the stage for their team to go well past the 200-run mark in this Gujarat Titans vs Sunrisers Hyderabad match.
