3 Reasons SRH Lost To GT IPL 2025: The Gujarat Titans defeated the Sunrisers Hyderabad by seven wickets in Match 19 of the Indian Premier League 2025. The match was played on Sunday, April 6, at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.
This was the Sunrisers’ fourth loss in a row. Even before this game, they were at the bottom of the league table. Now, with only one win and two points on the league table in five matches and the worst net run rate in the league, they are still bolted to the bottom of the table.
As for the Titans, this match was their third win in a row. With three wins and six points in four matches and a solid net run rate, they are second on the points table.
Today, we will look back at three reasons why SRH, which was one of the best teams in the league last season, lost this match.

3) The Continued Failure of Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Batting Order
Coming into IPL 2025, the Sunrisers Hyderabad boasted having one of the best batting attacks in the league, at least on paper. The likes of Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, Nitish Kumar Reddy, and Heinrich Klassen played major roles in this team’s run to the final in 2024. Add an explosive player like Ishan Kishan in the mix, and this was arguably the best T20 batting order in the world.
However, this season is going terribly for all these big names. The likes of Abhishek Sharma and Nitish Kumar Reddy have scored no runs this season, apart from the first match. Travis Head has shown glimpses of his brilliance but is getting out way too quickly, same with Heinrick Klassen. And Kishan, after scoring a 100 on his SRH debut, has been failing ever since.
Today, against Gujarat, Abhishek scored 18, Head scored eight, and Kishan scored 17. While Nitish Reddy and Klassen scored 31 and 34 runs, respectively, they did so slowly. Reddy even had a sub-100 strike rate. Due to all that, on a pitch where a score of 180 should have been par, the Sunrisers only managed to score 152 in 20 overs.

2) The Siraj/Shubman Storm
There were also brilliant individual performances that played a big role in the Gujarat Titans’ win against the Sunrisers Hyderabad. Two of the best performers for the Titans were ace pacer Mohammed Siraj and team captain Shubman Gill. These two, almost on their own, helped determine the Sunrisers Hyderabad Vs Gujarat Titans match winner.
GT won the toss and decided to bowl first. In the first over of the match itself, Siraj dismissed the dangerous Travis Head. In fact, he had a wonderful outing in front of his hometown crowd. In the four overs he bowled, ‘Miyan Magic’ had the excellent figures of 4/17 at an economy of 4.25. He took some massive wickets on the day, including the two openers. Siraj was also named the Player of the Match.
Despite having stopped Hyderabad for a below-par score, this score still needed chasing. This is when Shubman Gill came in. Today, the in-form Sai Sudharsan and Jos Buttler were dismissed in the powerplay. The skipper could have succumbed under the pressure, but he rose to the occasion and scored a match-winning 61 off 43.
1) SRH Fails to Read and Adapt to the Pitch
Today’s Sunrisers Hyderabad Vs Gujarat Titans match was played on a black-soil pitch, which means that the pitch would be a little sticky and not the easiest for bowlers. Moreover, spinners were expected to do well here. SRH management and team captain Pat Cummins failed to understand it and adapt to this surface.
While Gujarat too used only two spinners, they had three on their side. And the way the Sunrisers’ inning was going, they didn’t even need to use Washington Sundar’s bowling. On the other hand, SRH played only one full-time spinner in Zeeshan Ansari. While Kamindu Mendis and Abhishek Sharma bowled one over each, they were expensive. Another spinner like Adam Zampa or Rahul Chahar should have played this match.
On the other side of the game, despite the pitch being sticky, the Hyderabad batters were keen on batting the same way they have been since the 2024 season. Their do-or-die approach could have been altered a little today. And when the likes of Nitish Kumar Reddy did slow the inning down, he slowed it down a little too much.
