3 Reasons RR Lost To RCB IPL 2025: The Royal Challengers Bengaluru defeated the Rajasthan Royals by 11 runs while defending 206 in Match 42 of the Indian Premier League 2025. The match was played on Thursday, April 24, at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
The Rajasthan Royals are all but out of the IPL 2025. So far this season, they have won only two games, against CSK and PBKS. They have also lost seven against SRH, KKR, GT, RCB, DC, LSG, and RCB again. The last three games were incredibly close and came right down to the wire. After tonight’s win away from home, RR now has only two wins, four points, and a poor net run rate in nine matches. This puts them eighth on the points table.
As for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, their season is going more swimmingly. They started this campaign off with a win over defending champions KKR, followed by their first win over CSK in Chennai in 17 years. A loss to GT was followed by a win over MI and a loss to DC. RCB then defeated RR, lost to PBKS, defeated PBKS in the return fixture, and has now beaten RR again. The Royal Challengers have six wins, 12 points, and a decent net run rate, putting them third in the league table.
Today, we will look back at three reasons why RR, who looked like the favourites for most of the time while chasing, lost this game away from home.

3) Pace Bowling Fails Again
The Rajasthan Royals’ pace attack has been underwhelming in the last few games. While that statement might not be entirely fair, it is true that, in the death overs, they have given away a lot of runs. Especially Sandeep Sharma. That was partially the case today as well.
While Archer had a fine evening out with the leather, with his figures saying 1/33 in four overs, the three other fast bowlers in the side did not have the best of times. Sandeep Sharma, who has given away over 40 runs in just the last overs over the previous two matches combined, was expensive all across today, with his four-over spell being dished out a spell of 2/45.
After a fine performance in the previous game, Tushar Deshpande bowled only two overs today and gave away 26 runs at an economy of 18. As for the fourth pacer, Fazalhaq Farooqi played today in place of Maheesh Theekshana and bowled a three-over spell of 0/30. In all, Sharma, Deshpande, and Farooqi bowled nine overs, took two wickets, and gave away 116 runs.

2) RCB Top Order Shines
Virat Kohli seems to have found a purple patch of form in the recent games of IPL 2025. He has scored three half-centuries in the last four matches and five this season. Tonight, he was the highest run scorer for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, scoring 70 off 42 at a strike rate of 166.67.
While Kohli’s opening partner Phil Salt scored 26 in 23 deliveries, Devdutt Padikkal partnered up with the veteran batter for a 95-run second-wicket partnership, in which he himself scored 50 off 27 at a strike rate of 185.19. The two provided a solid base for Tim David and Jitesh Sharma to finish the inning well, despite captain Rajat Patidar having an off day with the bat, scoring just a single run.
The top order did well enough for RCB to cross the 200-run mark, which was enough to win in this Royal Challengers Bengaluru vs Rajasthan Royals match.
With his innings today, Virat has now climbed up to second in the race for the Orange Cap in IPL 2025, just behind Gujarat Titans’ Sai Sudharsan. The former Indian Cricket Team has scored 392 runs in nine games at an average of 65.33 and a strike rate of 144.11.
1) The Last Two Overs Of The Game
In all honesty, it was the final two overs of the match that were wholly responsible for RR’s loss against RCB in this match. Right before this, in the 18th over bowled by Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Rajasthan batters Dhruv Jurel and Shubham Dubey scored 22 runs to bring the equation down to 18 runs in 12 deliveries. With two set batters on strike, the batters win this battle more times than not.
However, the 19th over, bowled by Josh Hazelwood, was nothing short of a disaster for the Royals. After a single and a dot ball, Jurel was caught behind on the third delivery in a bizarre manner on the third, then Jofra Archer got out on the fourth. Only a single run was scored in the 19th as the score stood at 189/7.
With 17 required in the last over, again bowled by Bhuvi, the settled Dubey got out on the first ball, then Wanindu Hasaranga got out on the third. Five runs were scored in this over as RR lost the game by 11 runs.
This is the third match in a row in which the Riyan Parag-led team has started a chase off well and has set the chase up perfectly for the finishers, only to fumble at the final step. And this inability to finish matches has struck doom for the visiting team in this Royal Challengers Bengaluru vs Rajasthan Royals match.
