3 Reasons RR Lost To GT IPL 2025: The Gujarat Titans defeated the Rajasthan Royals by four runs in Match 23 of the Indian Premier League 2025. The match was played on Wednesday, April 9, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad and saw the home side win by 58 runs.
The Royals came into this game with a two-match winning streak. After starting their IPL 2025 campaign off with two wins, they defeated CSK and PBKS in their last two games. With tonight’s loss, they now have only two wins and four points in five games. Couple that with a poor net run rate, and they are seventh on the points table.
The Titans have become the first team to win four games this season. After kicking their season off with a loss against PBKS, GT has now won four games in a row, those wins coming against MI, RCB, SRH, and now RR. They are at the top of the points table with eight points and a solid net run rate.
Today, we will look back at three reasons why RR, who were coming off a two-match win streak, lost this match.

3) Batting Order Letdown
The Rajasthan Royals’ batting order is, on paper, considered one of the best in the league. The likes of Sanju Samson, Yashasvi Jasiwal, and Shimron Hetmyer are proven match-winners in the league. Meanwhile, Riyan Parag, Nitish Rana, and Dhruv Jurel have shown that they can play quickly.
However, despite so much firepower in their batting, the Rajasthan Royals fell by 58 runs while chasing a 218-run target, not even nearing the target. Jaiswal seems to be quite off-colour this season, getting out for just six runs off a rash shot. Rana was dismissed with an even rasher shot, and Jurel misjudged the ball, all three getting out for less than 10 in this Gujarat Titans vs Rajasthan Royals match.
Parag, Hetmayer, and captain Sanju played decent innings, with ‘Hettie’ even scoring a half-century, but none of them played for long enough to keep RR in the match.
It was the failure of the Royals’ batting order that played a big role in the side’s defeat tonight. Because despite some fine bowling from the Titans camp, there are no excuses for falling so short of the target.

2) A Brilliant Knock By Sai Sudharsan
When the chips were down and captain Shubman Gill was dismissed early, and Jofra Archer was breathing fire with the ball, Sai Sudharsan went ahead and played his best innings in IPL 2025.
Not only did Sai manoeuvre around a good-looking RR pace bowling in the powerplay and score some runs, but he was also the engine that powered the GT innings in the middle overs. He, along with Jos Buttler and Shahrukh Khan, kept the run rate around 10 rpo before the death overs, giving the batters to come a great platform to score runs from.
Sai Sudharsan scored 82 runs in 53 deliveries at an average of 154.72, anchoring the Titans’ inning as the batters around him kept the pace up. He scored eight 4s and three 6s in his innings and was barely troubled during his entire time on the pitch.
With this inning, Sai is now second in the race for the IPL 2025 Orange Cap. In five matches, the 23-year-old has scored 273 runs at an average of 54.60 and a strike rate of 151.66. This was his third half-century this season in only five innings.
1) Failure To Take Wickets For Pacers In The Middle Overs
The Rajasthan Royals’ bowling inning got off to a fine start in the powerplay as Jofra Archer bowled captain Shubman Gill and was looking lethal. However, the other pacers (besides Sandeep Sharma) were a massive letdown.
In the middle overs, where the likes of Tushar Deshpande and Fazalhaq Farooqi were tasked with taking wickets, they did not. Deshpande’s first over even went for 18 runs. It had to come from spinner Maheesh Theekshana to dismiss former Royal Jos Buttler. Shahrukh Khan was dismissed by Theekshana as well after scoring 36 off 29, and Sherfane Rutherford was bettered by Sandeep Sharma in the death.
Jofra had a great day with the ball. Sandeep Sharma bowled well but was smacked in the death overs, and Maheesh Theekshana was quite costly but took two crucial wickets, not taking which might have taken the score closer to 240.
But the two pacers whose job it was to take wickets and dampen the flow of runs in the middle overs, those being Tushar Deshpande and Fazalhaq Farooqi, conceded 91 runs in eight overs. Most of this blame goes on Tushar, who conceded 53 runs in four overs; however, he did scalp Sai Sudharsan. On the other hand, Farooqi conceded only 38 in four but failed to take wickets.
